lol, I can't help but I wanted to let you know you made me laugh. I saw the subject and thought "ground squirrel" like "ground beef"! lol
Since a month ago, there's a family of ground squirrel moved into my front yard. They dig holes here and there. I tried to get rid of them using wating, sonic plug-in item, some spread. None is working. After I flooded their holes they will just dig another one nearby. My lawn is being destroied.
I have a pet control guy to take a look tmr. I will see. Hope it's within my budget.
Please help!
Thanks!
what is caddyshack?
A CLARK pest control guy came to see it and said it's gopher. He quoted $70/mon for a yr agreement. I told him I don't want to sign up a yr long agreement. He told me I can get out of the agreement anytime w/o penalty which I don't believe hime. A agreement is a agreement. I will have other ppl from other companies coming to take a look. Hopefully I can find a cheaper one.
In the mean while I bought poison bait. But my husband didn't set the bait properly. i will see ...
Want to trap them, but hate to deal with those animals after catch them. Sounds dirty.
~~~~ I gained some expert opinions and did it myself. A very easy job!!!
Horay!
Had the same problem in my backyard. Those darn ground squirrels can drive you insane! We invested $15 on a wired cage (you can get them from home depot or check online) the cage has entries on both ends, same kind they use to catch raccoons, but smaller. Does not harm them, just traps them inside. For bait, we used peanut butter on piece of celery.
Caught the darn squirrel in 2 days, took the cage to a park across town and let the darn thing go. Ended up catching 3 and making sure they were let go far, far away from my yard. We have been ground squirrel free since. Good Luck!
OMG!!! I have seen Caddyshack and I don't hink it is at all funny once you've had these vermin move into your yard and take up residency! I for one, have been through the ringer with these squirrels and I'm happy to say that they are GONE! It was a three step approach that we set up after having a really nice pest control guy out to our house. We used poison bait traps, live rescue traps, and Coyote Urine. The poison bait did exactly that...poisoned them individually and they died with 24 hours of ingesting the bait. The live traps were set up and caught multiple squirrels, mostly the juveniles, and we relocated them to a park that was about 10 miles away. They can live there and thrive without being bothersome. Lastly, we continously used Coyote Urine which we had to buy online and have shipped to us. The mere scent of this scares the daylights out of them and other small vermin and it really did work. It was a process that took 2 months but when all was said and done, the squirells were all gone and have NOT returned. My neighbor had the same issues and she adopted two cats. We let the cats in our yard all the time because those two are the best deterrent and predatory rivals of these squirrels that I have ever seen! I'm allergic to cats so I admire and praise the kitty's from afar. I hope I have given you some answers and insight because this truly is not funny at all. The squirrels we had tore through several mesh screen sections in my screened in porch, came in there and set up shop under our hot-tub and chewed the insulation out of it like popcorn! What a stinky and terrible mess they made. I had to have it all professionally repaired and cleaned....$$$$$! Go get these damn things!
I've been living in my house for 13 years and have had ground squirrels the whole time. I've just gotten used to it. I don't think there is anything you can do to keep them out permanently, because they are probably all over your neighborhood. Now that I think about it, one year we had a family of foxes move in our neighborhood and they ate most of the ground squirrels. Maybe get a fox? lol
Did you see caddyshack? :-) Good luck with the pest control approach!
We just recently had 2 ground squirrels attempt to take up residence in our yard. Notice I said attempt. I love animals but I'm not about to roll out the welcome mat for these distructive pests. I just so happen to have a live trap and a 13 year old daughter who loves a challenge. She caught them both right away with a little chicken food in the cage. After you've caught it you can decide what to do with it. Mine aren't coming back !
Caddyshack is a funny movie! I've heard that they hate fox urine. You can get it the feed store. I've never done it though, so not sure how effective it is.
It may not be too humane but I have heard this works. Put a stick of Juicy Fruit gum in thier holes. The vermin like this flavor and the gum plugs up their intestines.
Hi J.,
How about a couple of cats or dogs?
Blessings....
Get an outdoor cat.
Caddyshack is a movie with Bill Murray. There's a gopher in the movie that digs holes all over a golf course.
Can you borrow a cat or dog? We never had any critter problems when our indoor/outdoor cat was alive. Now, there are problems with moles and chipmunks and rabbits....
If you don't have a cat/dog or want to get one, ask one of your neighbors if you can get some dog hair -- explain to them why you need it -- and put the hair at the edge of the holes or in the holes. Do all of them, and keep using fresh hair (so the dog's scent is fresh).
Good luck.
