you could try something like lily of the valley. it'll smell good in spring and the rest of the year just be pretty green. impatients might also work but they'd have to be replanted every year.
I have some very tall evergreen bushes that line my patio on two sides. Under them is all dirt. I would like to plant some kind of ground cover,or plants if they will survive with no sun. I don't like ivy, I pulled that out already and rocks/stones are not an option.
So if you know of any kind of plants or cover that would work there, I am ready to try anything at this point.
Thanks in advance!

Hi M. K,
Not sure if you've ever purchased from an online nursery. I have had good luck with the plants I've received and I like that I can choose things that are a little different than what is sitting at the local stores. Plus, the prices are quite a bit better in most cases.
Anyway, I have used Spring Hill Nursery with good success. www.springhillnursery.com
they have a unique search feature to find virtually anything you are looking for, for your situation. They have something called Lush Pachysandra, which boasts it is uniquely perfect for planting under pine trees as a ground cover.
If you dont like that, there is also Purple Wintercreeper and Wintergreen, (which has pretty red berries on it and reminds me of holly in that way) I believe both are evergreen so it won't get ugly in the winter.
If you are not comfortable buying it online, perhaps you could see if your local nursery carries these, or can order them for you. I Think SIDS on Naper/Plainfield and 111th street in Bolingbrook is willing to do this for customers...they may already have it, but you may find the online price more attractive.
Good luck with your problem spot!
Happy Gardening :)

Hello-
I have many ferns which do great in shade. I just posted them on craig's list. The big ones (2 feet tall) are going for $3 each, medium ones for $2 each and small ones for $1 each. Let me know if you want any. They are very hardy and will reproduce more for you each year.
