Someone on that question answered with tacos. so my question is: what age do kids start liking these? I love tacos, but never make them as I am pretty sure my kids would just not eat it. They are 3 and 6. well maybe my 3 yo would try them, but my six year old must have all food separate without any sauce on it, and it must be crunchy, she has sensory processing disorder and will basically just starve herself. My 3 yo on the other hand loves softer foods, and loves anything with a sauce and loves to dip. ^ yo also has severe peanut allergy, and egg allergy and 3 yo might have a treenut allergy. So what other creative foods can can I offer my kids besides the the plain foods we eat, which are pretty much fruit plain, lightly cooked veggies no sauce, and pasta with butter and rice. We don't eat a lot of meat and my daughter has a soy sensitivity and she hates beans, though my son will eat them dipped in ranch dressing. Thanks for any help!

What can I do next?

My DD likes separate foods, too. Not a huge fan of sauce. So we put sauce separate and let her have her tacos in stages - she eats the shell and then maybe wants some meat or veg or cheese, but rarely together. Get a taco kit with soft and crunchy tacos and let them have what they like.

If they eat rice, what about couscous? Or pilaf?

If he'll eat beans, will he eat sugar snap peas? Will she?

my kids LOVE LOVE LOVE tacos!! And have since they were 2 or so...you can have soft or hard/crunchy tacos...

My kids don't have allergies to foods (my daughter was allergic to caffeine/chocolate from the time she was 2 to about 13) so I've not had this problem and all...no sensory issues either...

My kids eat anything and everything...I don't think there's much they don't like...my youngest doesn't like to eat eggs - but that's his personal preference not an allergy issue.

sorry i can't be of more help

My kids love tacos 4 & 6 why dont you do like a taco plate where the one who doesnt like them touching can have her meat and extras on the side where she can dip that way she gets her crunch and can choose what she wants on the corn chips (or just get the hard shells and have him break off bits)

Hmmm...hard to say if they'll like them unless you try them.
When I ask my son what he'd like for dinner this week, his answer is always "TACOS!" and has been the same since he was about 3 or 4.
But he's the exception to most kids--he's never met a food he didn't like. Except cream cheese. Seriously. That's ALL he won't eat.
But I never made him "special, kid food" he was always served what we had and the kid is game to try anything!

Do they like BBQ beef or pork on buns?
Do they like homemade macaroni & cheese?
Do they like nachos or chips with salsa?
Try the combo taco kit--it has hard & soft shells so both can have what they like...they can just put meat and lettuce or add cheese, salsa, taco sauce, (or, like my son, chopped onions!)

My point--you never know until they try it!

My suggestions: we do our weekly menus basically like this: 1 day of chicken, then beef, then pork (this could be anything from pork chops with a blackberry & port wine sauce to red beans & rice with sausage), then vegetarian (moussaka, lasagna, or sweet potato gnocchi and sliced squash, peppers, and mushrooms in a pasta sauce?), then fish (even fish tacos! Broil some fish marinated in lemon or lime juice, a little salt and pepper, and then break it up in a tortilla and serve it with fresh chopped vegetables and avacado), then a soup or stew, and another day for leftovers (whatever's left). That's a week, and it keeps it a bit varied instead of the same stuff day after day. I do get in ruts and do have to make steps to break out. One thing we do like to do is go to the farmer's market on Thursday afternoons after naptime. We pick a different vegetable every week and experiment with it. As for beans, there are lots of different kinds of beans, and lots of ways to make them.
As for the taco question: my kids started eating soft tacos before their first birthday. Crunchy tacos: when they're old enough to eat a chip, they're old enough to eat tacos (albeit a messy meal). What's not to like? Ground beef, cheese, avocado (one of both boys' very first foods), a little hot sauce if you want and if not then some chopped tomato, and some lettuce. I just chop half an onion, brown it with a pound of meat, drain, use Old El Paso taco seasoning (McCormicks is very bland). We really just serve them the food we eat. The only difference is that I don't make things QUITE as spicy as I used to, where we can just add some LA Hot Sauce afterwards to ours (or use regular rotels instead of extra hot). When this is different: if we're making something like smothered filet mignon topped with gorgonzola, I'll serve the boys some sirloin instead because the filet is kinda wasted on them....and they don't like gorgonzola very much. (Though they love feta!) Just experiment. I'm sure you have obstacles at mealtime, but even picky eaters can learn to taste things and enjoy eating.

My son has eaten burritos since he was maybe two (possibly earlier). I don't see why your kids wouldn't eat hard or soft tacos. Does your daughter like spicy? Wasabi peas are crunchy, low fat and high protein (yes they are a snack, not a meal). We have made the switch to whole grain pasta and brown rice (most of the time, it does take longer to cook). If they eat pasta and rice, they will likely eat quinoa. There are a huge variety of beans out there (as well as ways to cook them) so I would keep trying - my son loves garbanzo beans (plain or in hummus), lima beans (any way), black beans (cold bean salad, black beans and rice, black bean soup), kidney and navy beans (white bean dip w/olive oil, garlic & cumin, chili (vegetarian, turkey or w/ cashews) as well as green beans and anything in the pea family.

There is some good evidence that children need to try a new food an average of 10-12 times before they will consistently eat it - most parents give up well before trying that many times.

My 4y and 10y LOVE them. We mix it up a bit. We do soft tacos with meat, McCormicks Mild taco seasoning, and shredded cheese or soft tacos with just the shredded cheese. Zapped in the microwave for about 15 seconds. My 4y loves to dip them in sour cream, and ranch dressing.

We also do taco salad - lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese, bean dip, crumbled tortilla chips or doritos with sour cream and ranch dressing.

My 3yo son's been eating tacos, and every other Mexican dish, since introducing solids. Costco sells Mini-Tacos, which have been a big hit with everyone who parties at our house. For a bday party, we bought 3 boxes, thinking we'd maybe break into the 2nd box and have plenty left over for ourselves - I couldn't refill the tray fast enough and went thru all 3 boxes, for guests aged 1yo - 50yo.

For a while he would only eat things shaped like a french fry, so I cut up whatever I could in that shape. Then he would only eat things he could dip, so I pureed a lot of stuff into 'dip style' and let him use sweet potato chips and other healthier options for dipping. Then he would only eat fresh berries (in the winter, when they cost the most). Then he would eat any rice or quinoa as long as it was in enchilada sauce. Then it was anything drenched in Parmesan cheese. Now he's on some typical toddler eating strike and eats random things on random days and its so frustrating :)

Can you do mini sandwiches with toast/crackers, so the one gets crunchy, but the other gets soft? Cereals, one hot/one cold? If I get any other ideas, I'll PM you.

Good luck!

Only one of my children will eat a taco-my 17mo! What I do is offer all the ingredients on the table and the kids make their own. They usually just end up eating the items they like but at least then we get to enjoy them ourselves without making multiple meals. Oh and we offer soft shells because the kids don't like the hard ones.
