Grocery Options at Disney World?

Hi helpful mamas! We're going on a trip to Disney World for a week, and we'll be staying at the Art of Animation resort. We will arrive at the airport and have a shuttle to the resort. We will not be renting a car or leaving the resort during our stay. So, what food shopping options are there to stock our hotel room with snacks and such (fruit, cereal, milk, etc.) Are there any convenience-type stores within Disney where we can buy food? We also have a meal plan, but we'd like to be able to snack in our room as well. Many thanks for your advice. *peace*!

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for your helpful replies! We had the most wonderful and magical time at Disney World! This is what we ended up doing. We packed a lot of granola bars in our luggage. We got the refillable mugs at our resort, and the food plan fed us silly! Seriously, the food was so amazing, and so plentiful, especially the character meals which were usually buffets. And not just any buffets, but awesome food like plantains, couscous, corn spoonbread and lots of other amazing delicious treats. Speaking of treats, the snacks were great too! Sometimes we got fruit and sometimes we got ice cream. Anyway I can't believe I was worried about us not having enough to eat! Many thanks everyone... *peace*!

Most of the resorts will have a convenience store on the property (they are expensive), but there are different companies here that will deliver groceries to your room.

If you have the meal plan you won't need many snacks. Do breakfast at hotel. I hope you made your reservations at the restaurants already.

the resort you're staying at, the budget side (we stayed there as well), there are no stores to purchase food in the immediate area.
if i remember the rooms didn't have fridges either, so that limits your options.
we had the meal plan at the time, and we never ended up in the room hungry. have fun!

At all the Disney Resorts they have little stores in them called sundrie stores. They all have milk, juice, water, fresh fruits, breads, cereals, snacks, chips that sort of thing. They also have suntan lotion, diapers and such. Sure the prices are a little higher than Walmart but if you don't have a car to get there and rent one, then you really aren't saving much. Another option is ordering some groceries and having them delivered to the resort(don't need to be present when they are delivered....FD will take them and refrig/freeze anything that need to be kept cold). Here are two stores that I know deliver to the resorts.... goodings.com and gardengrocer.com

If you have reserved a family suite at DAAR (Nemo,Cars or Lion King) then you will have a mini-kitchen in the room. It has a small fridge (with small freezer), micro and paper plates and plastic silverware will be provided. If you have a Little Mermaid room then you won't have a mini kitchen but the same fridge.

Since you have the dining plan already (was going to suggest that) don't forget that you get a free refillable mugs with that. You can only refill it at your home resort and they only offer coffee, pop and hot/cold tea and hot cocoa...no milk

Have fun at Disney World, it truly is a magical place....

www.allears.net is a great resource for the parks, food and outside the parks activities.

There are no places to grocery shop in the park but you could always take a taxi to one if you really wanted too.

i'm not an expert but maybe someone can speak to this, I have heard you can ship down your snackies ahead of time and the hotel will hold it for you. that doesn't do much for your fruit (unless it's dried) or your milk ( unless it's powdered).

I've head those meal plans stuff you full. not sure you'll need snacks.

Try googling where the closest Publix grocery story is near the resorts. It's a great grocery store - clean and organized. Not sure of what others are in Florida. Or just try to pack snack type foods in your checked luggage. Granola bars, trail mix, pop tarts, etc...

We went back in January, and the food at the resorts was really good! Much better than in the parks unless you have dining reservations at one of the nicer restaurants.

Have fun!

Oh they'll sell you food alright but they'll charge you and arm and a leg.
Bring your own snacks.
If you were renting a car the thing to do would be to get off Disney property to the nearest super market.
If a store down there delivers, then you are all set.
