Anyone have a great job for a mom??? I live in Hurst, but would consider Hurst, Euless, Bedford, Grapevine, Colleyville, Southlake , Keller, etc...... I have a 4 year old and would love something from home, or something like a church nursery or childcare center that follows a school schedule. Any lucky lady out there have a perfect job for someone who wants to work but wants to be a mom too???????????????? I am not asking to be hired, just wanting advice from someone who has found a job with a great schedule. I am currently working as a School Nurse and have my R.N., B.S.N., but think I may be ready for something TOTALLY different!
I know that the YMCA does childcare.. but like Oneanddone said, you will be taking a major pay cut!!
You know that moms fight each other bloody trying to get a school-job (admin, nurse, teacher) in their kids' school, right? I would wait till your 4yo is in K before quitting. It's only 1 year, and in a year you may very well be working your dream job.
Are you willing to trade the money you make in nursing for a minimum wage PT child care position?
Personally, I'd look into some type of at-home opportunity for nurses.
I have a friend that mans the phone during scheduled hours for J&J for patients with questions about, trouble with, their diabetes/insulin testers.
Look at teaching part time at a community college......
I can't say everyone can get this job but the best job I have is working at the university as a lecturer. I pick my schedule for the most part, get a month off in December, 3 months in summer and 1 week in Spring (not to mention all school holidays). As a mom, that gives me plenty of time with my kids. The fact that it's college also means I'm not working everyday (for those who went to college knows that classes don't happen everyday... I remember scheduling class so I only went to school two days a week... love those days). Anyway, I was lucky to have gotten the job. I teach the laboratory classes which are 3 hours each but when students are done, they just leave so sometimes I get out an hour early and a full time schedule is 7 labs. That means a full time schedule is 21 hours a week. I love teaching but I love this job because it's been so good for me being able to spend time with my kids. Sorry if this doesn't help since the job description is very specific to a degree but sometimes Community Colleges will need part-time instructors.

Are you looking for a job that you can take your kid(s) with you? Is that why you asked about nursery care?
If you are a current RN - are you willing to take the pay cut to work part time? There are plenty of hospice nursing jobs...however...you can't bring your child with you on home visits to the best of my knowledge..

Do you want to work from home in the sense of working for yourself, or for someone else? Are you interested in starting your own business (with support and training) or to you want to work a flex schedule (such as working after the kids go to bed) and receive a paycheck? These are very different but viable options, so you need to know what kind of person you are.
For example, I do nutritional consultation for my own business, and our industry has a lot of former medical professionals but also teachers, sports professionals, massage therapists, strong communicators, and many many others, including people who've been in community service and non-profit circles, who like to work with others and help extend health education. I'm in business FOR myself but not BY myself because I have a huge network of colleagues all over the country. But that's not for everyone.
If you want a regular paycheck that goes along with the school schedule but allows you to stay at home, that's going to be harder to work out. Phone work can't be done when the kids are noisy, and not everything can wait until the vacation is over. And what's your plan for the summer?

My mom is an RN and she had a job for 2 years where she went to all the CVS/Walgreens and gave flu shots. It was usually during the day and she had 2 to 4 hr shifts and made like $15-$20 hr. I thought that was a pretty flexible job. She pretty much got to choose her schedule. She loved doing that! She's retired now though. I work in a Law Office and work 9am-3pm which is perfect for me so I can pick up my daughter from school and have all afternoon/evening at home with them. So you might look into secretarial/admin type jobs. They are sometimes hard to get since alot of people apply, but you might just find one that works perfectly. Good Luck!
