Grapes!!!!

My DD loves grapes...or as she calls them (she will be two in a couple of weeks) "apesss". Anyway, as I am sure you all know grapes in a little one can wreak havoc on there little digestive systems. I just recently bought some grapes, and I try to give her only a handful a day but she loves them so much and pulls at my heartstrings with her "apes peese" that I can't help but indulge her every once and awhile. But because of this she has the runs the next day, maybe even twice. I guess what I am wondering is when did your little ones grow out of this phase or get old enough where you didn't have to worry about how many grapes they ate? Thanks in advance for your responses

What can I do next?

Grapes and cheese cubes or bananas go great together - and counter each other, digestively speaking.

I just let them eat as many as they want and deal with the consequences. :D I'd rather they beg for grapes and have the runs than be begging for chocolate.

I offered my daughters grapes & sliced bananas - together it kind of evened things out.

It's so hard to turn them down when they're being so cute...

Maybe you could try cutting the grapes in half? That way it might take her a little longer to eat the same amount. Not much help, I know...

They never gave my son that result! Increase the bananas & starches on the grape days, maybe?

Its good for her. My baby loves all kinds of fruit because thats all she had instead of candy. Frozen grapes! They were good for us because my baby has been constipated her whole life and they helped. Maybe some banana? That may help thicken her up? Good luck mama

There are foods that you can give her to solidify poops. Banana's I do believe do that. Maybe some other mom's can think of other foods to counteract the grapes. I just can't think of any others.

Bananas, cheese and yogurt come to mind. My older son had the opposite problem. If we don't pay close attention, he gets constipated. Bananas, cheese and yogurt are foods that we learned to avoid during those times. As long as you balance her diet with one of the above foods, she should be fine.

I'm sure there's other foods that would work as well, but those were the only ones I could think of.

I would say banana and a probiotic, maybe some rice, cheese or other "tightening" food. I actually use some of those to help my 1 year old that often has very hard stool, grapes, cherries, blueberries. I love that she loves them all.

My sons loves grapes so much he'll eat them until he gets sick. Kinda a waste of fruit so now I cut them in half and ration them while he's eating.

Oh my goodness... my son is just the same way!! Except he says 'geep'.

He love, loves them, but they don't quite love him back ;)

Honestly, I cut them up into halves if not quarters, and then I offer other fruits. He is 21 months, so it isn't a hazard, he is capable of eating them. My theory is a) it'll take him a little longer to eat them, (yea right!) or b) maybe it won't wreak so much havoc on his digestive system, because they are in smaller pieces (I don't know just wishful thinking). Luckily watermelons are available, and he loves those. I couldn't even try to write how he says that!

Good Luck!

My little ones never got the runs with grapes- but they did get it with apples or apple juice, and they still do! They never grew out of that.

Try to offer her something else. My daughter loved (and still does) grapes. But I started giving her strawberries, too. Pineapple as well. Just try sneaking some other fruit in there too. You are the parent. Tell her that is all you have - strawberries. There are no grapes. Maybe switch off one fruit each day. I do that with my daughter and it works great. If she chooses not to eat, don't worry, she will. She will eventually get hungry!

My son is 4 and I still have to monitor grapes, citrus, apples ... many fruits and some veggies in his system.

Good for you for teaching her the greatness of fruits and veggies and for listening to her body.

Please consider getting Organic Grapes. Grapes often get covered in a lot of pesticides because of the profit margin on grapes, and these chemicals are nearly impossible to get totally off, and is short term and long term hard on a child's system and is bad for the Farm Workers and the environment.

Please check it out on-line. In my 30 second search I found WebMD had this to say: http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/slideshow-to-buy-or-not.... It really is worth checking out.

I love grapes and my kids do too. It is not so hard to find organic ones and they usually are only a small amount of more money but has a huge impact on our environment, our children's health and our fellow humans, not to mention the animals and plants near the farms where the grapes are grown. Small decisions can have big impact.

Just my 2-cents.

Keep up the healthy choices!

Grapes do not do that to my son but spinach used to, now it no longer does (he is 3). So she may or may not outgrow it.

How about berries? you can offer them as "blue grape" or "strawberry grape" maybe? :-)))
