My husband and I adopted my then 2 year old granddaughter (she had lived with us from the time she was 2 months) due to my daughter's incapacity to take care of her. We moved to another town, far from where we had lived due to a job I was offered, and not long after we moved, my husband died. My granddaughter has slept with me as it makes her feel very safe and she keeps a very close eye on me to make sure I don't disappear. . She is now 5 and we are talking about her getting a bunk bed and her sleeping on her own. I have heard from another mental health therapist (I am one, too), that there is nothing wrong with a child sleeping with parents/grandparents. There would certainly be issues if there were hints of inappropriate things occurring, but, otherwise, I don't see a problem. And especially as young as she is, going to someone else's home can be kind of scary. I scared easily, and would sneak into my grandfather's bed (he and mamaw were old fashioned and they slept in separate beds. Papaw didn't mind, but mamaw was a light sleeper and would order me back to my bed, despite my fear. I hope this helps you.
