Grandmothering!

Hi - I'm a young grandma of 5 also - 4 boys and 1 little girl ranging in age from 12 to 1 (12 yr old is a "step" grandson but still mine - LOL. I don't have grown daughters - mine are 2 grown sons, but if you want to swap stories or just talk feel free to contact me. Also would love to spend more time with my grandkids.

i am a kinda young,45,grandmother of 5 and 1 one the way also. i have my 2 oldest grandchildren living with us now and only see 1 of the others every other week or so, his parents are very busy all the time.ita easy being grandma, but its a great thing.my g-babies rang in age from 13 to almost 1 and one due in june.
i dont work,although i am the lead vocalist in the chicao rock band "wet thing" and host an internet show, but i still never find time to spend with them due to parents situations.and we must be careful not to cross the line between mother and grandmother and that aint easy. i relize there is not really any advise here to be given..yet lol,but just to let you know u are not alone.hang in there it will work out fine, just keep lovin them, parents and all lol.

Well, I am a not so young grandma of 5 and NO more on the way thank Heavens! Don't get me wrong. I want more but not right now! I am pooped with all the help I am giving both my daughters with child care and the thought of adding one more into the mix makes me VERY tired! I also must work and on my days off I have all 5 of the kids. One of my adult daughters is divorced so my husband and I help her with the child care so she does not have to miss work and my other daughter is married but we are helping her while she is a student. She graduates this summer. We live next door to both girls. We moved there purposely to save time driving while we help with the kids. I actually love living close. The daughter who actually lives right next door in the townhouse closest to us has 2 kids who can just come over now anytime they want (and when grandmother and papa say yes) we just love that part. The other daugter's townhouse is across the street so we have to watch them cross to be sure they are safe. That is good to. What about you?

I am a young grandmother of 5. One daughter has 3 boys 16, 8, 6 and twins on the way in Nov. My younger daughter has a daughter 2 and our newest grandson 3 mos. I spend alot of time with the grandchildren in different ways. The boys play basketball on Saturday mornings. I go to the game then take the boys for chocolate milk and donuts. For my birthday I asked for 1 sleep over a month instead of a present. This also gives my daughters a night alone with their husband. I also plan special events for them to attend, as a scavenger hunt, a competitive game of dice, or even a book reading contest. Whatever time we share is always doing something. Enjoy them and always be happy to see them even if it's not for a long time. Gma-Gma

I would love to exchange ideas .... I have 7 grandchildren - 6 boys and 1 girl. 5 of the boys are older - still have 1 7 year old grandson and 1 spoiled 3 year old granddaughter. I live close to the 2 youngest ones and took care of them until they started pre-school and I presently watch the 7 year old after school until his paretns get home. They are the children of my youngest daughter. I attempt to follow their rules ... but it is a fine line sometimes.

There's a wonderful book out called "Walking on Eggshells" that deals with handling your adult children, in-laws,etc.
I am the "old" grandmother of only 2, my daughter's children. What questions do you have?

I try to think up fun tings to do with them...my favoite was a carrage ride in the park...or the tea party had..

I would try to figure in my own schedule when I have time and then I would take either one at a time or if girls or boys I would take them out for ice-cream after they have been very good children as a reward for them. I would always try to make sure they know that it is a 'SPEIAL TIME' because of your schedule. Also just a 'play date' where you take one at a time because they enjoy being with you 'alone' because they have to 'share' all the time and this makes them feel special and you are a 'special grandmother. Hope these ideas work and I would also talk to my daughter to see what she would like the most and would get the most out of your time.

I am the middle-aged grandmother of 3 wonderful grandboys. I cannot imagine my world without them. They are 7,5 and 16 months. They are my son's children. I think is harder in a way to speak with your son about issues, but believe me, I still do. My daughter is still in high-school but I am sure my time will come with her after college. I am so lucky to be able to take them 2 nights a weeks while my daughter-in-law works. We should start a grandma's group.

I think this is a great idea for us grandmothers to hook up. Isn't being a grandmother the best!! I have 2 step grandsons, ages 13 and 14 and 3 by birth, ages 7, 5, and 2 years. The 7 and 5 year old have always lived about 5 hours away from us, but we tried to see them on a regular basis, as we wanted our grandchildren to know us. The others live nearby, which is wonderful, because the 7 and 5 year olds have now moved about 18 hours away (unless you fly). I was employed until 1 month ago. Currently, our youngest daughter is soon to be married and I'm pretty sure we will have more grandchildren pitter pattering around. We wish the others could be much closer, but intend to visit at least 4 times a year, if not more and have gotten web cams on both ends so we can talk via the internet. FAMILY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING and if any of them needed anything, we would drop everything and be there for them in a heartbeat.

I am a 51 year old grandmother of two (a 2 year old and a 9 month old). My relationship with my daughter is one of the delights in my life.
