I can't even remember, how bad is that? I know it was something for college, probably a laptop knowing my geek ness.
What did/are you giving your child for their high school graduation? My child is graduating and having an 18th bday soon after. I want to get some good ideas.

We gave him a laptop. He needed it for college :)
Well, we let him go with his choir to Europe to sing. That was a BIG deal. Ideally, it would have been his junior year that we would have sprung for, because he would have been with those same kids and been part of the choir for another year. We knew that college would soon overtake high school in his eyes, (not that you can tell a highschooler that LOL!) but the Europe experience will always be important.
Separate from that, we gave him a laptop to take to college. All college freshmen need that.
Oh, and no matter what your husband says (ahem!) get the insurance. I really mean it. My son stepped on his screen and had to use his Christmas money to fix it. (Sorry, dads out there!)

I agree with the laptop idea--SOOOOO helpful in college.
Over the years, the graduates I've had...
I gace my niece a copy of "Oh the Places You'll Go" Dr. Seuss and a hot pink Passport holder. She's very sentimental and loved it.
I bought my daughter a very nice black and white orchid painting - her 1st peice of grown up framed art work. She's very independant and quite stylish.
I bought my nephew the Ninja Blender - he was getting his own place.
I gave my stepson a bouquet of balloons and a $50 gas card. He drives the weels off his car and is always out of gas.
Each gift tailored to thier personality.
Helped pay for the top of the line Laptop she needed for college.. It was her baby..
We are already upgrading g our daughters laptop. Hers is my ancient one and doesn't even have a working battery but there was no reason to upgrade..works fine at home and we knew she would likely need a Mac as she is an artist(even tho she does not want a Mac!) and it will make college easier for her.
So we decided we will get her something to always have. We are taking her shopping to choose a piece of jewelry, likely a ring. Not super expensive, but several hundred dollars will be our limit and she will have it forever. She is our one and only, so we are not doing this again. If there was an experience based gift she asked for we would have done that.
i will go with a labtop
.
We paid for his Senior trip. That was what he asked for.
We gave our kids a grad party which costs in the realm of $500. There are always about 100 people attending these parties. by the time food, soft drinks, papergoods etc are purchased its about that much. But we do it for each of them. When they leave for college we put $100 in their bank accounts.
What does she need?
My daughter does not need anything but she loves cash so she'll probably get cash. She graduates in 2013
It will be exciting to get her ready for dorm life which will be a huge adjustment because she will be moving from our upstairs that has been all hers (3 bedrooms, game room, library, 2 baths) to a dorm room about the size of her closet!
I do agree fully with the laptop if your child does not have one. They are a must have for college. Gees, it was a must have for our daughter in 11th grade and will be for 12th as well. MacBook Pro is way to go! She loves it. Hubby and I love our Dell's
I finally went through my son's pictures and made him an album of his "life." I put the best pictures in it. He had tears, and he is not a cryer. It was the best gift I have ever given anyone. He kept saying, "Thank you, Mom, thank you, Mom." That's the truth. I never had taken care of his photos and finally I got them organized and I journalled a lot of my love for him in this album. If you want to know how I did it, you can pm me.
Good luck! Happy times ahead!
