Grace or Gracie?

I would go with Grace. Gracie is cute for a child. But if she wants to be a board room exec then Gracie doesn't sound to commanding. We're adults longer than we are children.

Have you thought about Gracelyn? A friend of mine was going to name her daughter Grace, but couldn't find a middle name she liked with it. I haven't talked to her in awhile and I forgot what middle name she used but her are some of my own ideas below. Oh and they did call her Gracie as a nickname, but she has that more adult name for when she's older. Oh, not a big fan of the spelling of MaKenna.

I like Jocelyn and dislike all the other names, especially Nevaeh. If you are going with Grace/Gracie I would name her Grace and call her Gracie if you wish. When she is an adult she may not like the little girl sound of Gracie. How about Grace Katherine, Gracie Kate for short?

I like Grace. It is very simple and classic. For my daughter I found it easier to look at family names for both the first and the middle. She has a more complex first name with a simple middle name- Elethra Jane. Since Grace is a simple first name maybe look at family names that are more complex, Grace Elizabeth, Grace Janelle, or Grace Nevaeh. My great grandmother was Elethra Calista and I always like Elethra, we call her Ellie for short. Good Luck!

For sure Grace. I deal with people all the time that I have to use their real, full given name. There was a time in the 50's and early 60's when men were named Ricky, Bobby, Billy etc. None of them are happy about it as adults. Also, I have a personal deep seeded hatred for the name Nevaeh. I think it is trendy and kind of awful. Again, remember some day this kid is going to be an adult. When she is applying for jobs do you want her to have to deal with being named Heaven spelled backwards??

My rule of thumb for names is this:

I envision a name on a resume and I ask myself "would I stop and read it or would I dump it"? If it has a 'made up name' or a traditional name that's spelled crazy/ phonetically - it goes in the dump it category.

We have to remember that in school and as an adult your name is often the first introduction you have to someone and you need to make it a positive, not a head scratching introduction.

One more thing and I'll step down from my soap box....
No one should give a child a name that AUTOMATICALLY makes a person ask them to explain it/ the story behind it, etc. I once knew a girl who was a twin and her brother died prior to birth... her mother named her Michael Anne (the names she had picked out for them. Lucky her.. she gets to spend the rest of her life telling people she is named after her dead twin.

Our daughter's name is Grace Olivia!

I have and 8 month old named Grace Ann. My 2.5 year old daughter calls her 'Gracie', and came up with it on her own right away. Sometimes we call her either Grace or Gracie.

For middle names we considered Elizabeth, Anne, Rose, Marie

So, in order, I like: Grace, Faith, Joceyln, MaKenna, Nevaeh

I like Grace as the name and Gracie as a nickname. A few middle names that I like for Grace are:

Elizabeth
Beatrice
Abigail
Kathryn
Caroline

In order, I like Grace, Jocelyn, Faith, MaKenna, and Naveah.

The name of your child is a very personal decision. While I love the name Grace, I'm not very fond of Gracie but again that is my personal choice. With both of my children I had one name picked out and then when they were born I changed my mind because the name just didn't fit with my sons.

I love Grace and Gracie. Go with Grace and call her Gracie. I like Grace much better than the rest on your list. Congrats!

Grace is a very nice name, so if you like it, go with it, but don't use Gracie or on paperwork she will be perpetually 3yrs old forever. When choosing a name, think of how it will age with your child. Gracie is cute, but is it as cute on a 40yr old lawyer or doctor or congresswoman? I don't think so. Same with made up spellings. McKaylynleigh may be cute and seem unique for a baby, but as she ages, she is going to get mega tired of spelling that name, right?

Out of your other names, Jocelyn is by far the best, and I really like that name. MaKenna and Navaeh are tryndee names that just won't age well, and are very much tied to a decade, like Jennifer. Faith is a good name and will age well, so thats a good choice as well.

Grace sounds best with a double syllable or more middle name, like Grace Marie, Grace Elizabeth. Jocelyn Grace is a fantastic name!

I agree with the others who have stated if she is named Gracie she'll be 3 forever, however another reason to name her Grace instead of Gracie is that when you or she introduce herself as Gracie people will inevitably say is Gracie short for Grace and she'll have to say no its just Gracie. My neighbor named her daughter Cassie and she always gets the "oh is that short for Cassandra" it gets annoying.

I'm a firm believer in honoring someone when you name them. My first name is a variation of my dad's and my middle is a variation of my mother's middle name. It may be silly but it makes me feel a little cloer to my parents by having kinda a piece of them in my name. With that said I would look at the important women in yours and your husband's life and see if any can be turned into a middle name. How about Grace Rachelle so its kinda like your name? Ny niece's name is Grace and we call her Gracie as a nickname. Her middle name is Lorraine which I think fits well with Grace. I really like the name McKenna (spelled the way another reader responded).

I agree with everyone else - definitely Grace, not Gracie, and Faith is nice as well. My mother would tell you that she got called "Gracie, Gracie, with the dirty facie!"
LOL. I think parents should remember the doctor's oath when naming their children - First, do no harm. ;)

I would go for Grace. Gracie for nick name.

Name her Grace and then call her whatever you want. If you think of what she could be when she grows up- doctor, lawyer, manager- you want her to have a name that people will take seriously. Gracie is super cute, but wouldn't be a good fit for a professional, in my opinion. Naming her Grace would give her a "grown-up" name with options; she can choose what she wants to do with it as she grows up.

I think you should name her Grace and nickname her Gracie. I have a friend who named her daughter Grace Katheryn and they call her Gracey....she is the only one I know who spells it that way...Gracey...I usually see it spelled Gracie. I think you should have a middle name with more than one syllable. I like Grace McKenna the best. Congrats on your baby! Best of luck with the naming!

Another vote for Grace on the birth certificate and Gracie as a nickname. She is only going to be a "Gracie" for the first 5 years of her life. The next 80+ years she will want to be "Grace."

As far as middle names go, we always used family names. It honors a family member, but sometimes those names aren't in style anymore and it's not what an elementary school child wants to be called. But if they get older and want to use it they can.

I read in a baby book that you want to vary the syllables if it's not 2-2-2. Grace Faith - as beautiful as those two names are - comes out a little choppy. Jocelyn MaKenna is a mouthful. I would save Faith for the next daughter if you plan to have more. Grace MaKenna has the prettiest flow in my opinion, but your last name comes into play as well. I like Nevaeh as a middle name because it's unusual and people won't be able to spell, pronounce or remember it. If it's in the middle, it's only used by family and no one will butcher it.

If you go with Grace, I would just use Gracie as a nickname. That's my personal opinion.

I love all your name choices! You might want to consider the fact that with Joceyln, MaKenna and Nevaeh....people will constantly ask how to spell the name or biff it up. If you go with Grace, I would stick with Grace and call her Gracie. That way she can have a more adult name if she choses when she's older. Also, my name is F. and I have always loved my name! F. is a lot less common and you might be able to avoid your daughter being Grace P.

I like Grace because it will go good as a child and a adult. Gracie will not go to well as an adult.

I would name her Grace and use the nickname Gracie. I love Gracie but strictly for a little girl.

We were going to name our 3rd girl Grace, and call her Gracie for a nickname. But I wanted a bit of a longer name so we decided on Gracianna Faith. And we could call her Grace or Gracie or Gracianna. Grace Kamryn was also an option. We ended up nnaming her Jianna Joelle though. Lol Good luck!

My daughter was supposed to be Cassie-Ann but I didn't hyphenate it on the birth certificate we still call her that however. I would name her Grace and a nickname Gracie. Either way it's a cute name. Faith is also cute:)

Name her Grace, call her Gracie...she will appreciate it when she is an adult, especially depeding on what career she goes into. Also, as another person posted, I like Grace R.!!

In order I like them Grace, Faith, Jocelyn...dont care for MaKenna or Neveah...too trendy.

Congrats on your baby girl, motherhood is just amazing! I just had my first baby in July, a boy Cade. My bestfriend named her little girl Gracie Madeline I love it!! She went through the same issue Grace or Gracie, but they decided if they called her Grace they would end up calling her Gracie anyway. Good Luck!!

Grace is a terrific name. You should leave Gracie for a nickname; when she's adult she can decide to go with Grace. Anne would go nicely as a middle name.

Jocelyn is a nice name (or did you mean to spell it Joceyln?), and Faith is lovely, too. I'm not a fan of the names with invented spellings, so I'd skip MaKenna and Nevaeh. However, you could go with the original Scottish spelling, McKenna, which means son of Kenneth.

I would go with Grace and call her Gracie as a nickname. I have a daughter, Madelyn Grace. Sometimes I call her Gracie. It's a nice first or middle name. I like names that are old fashioned and will likely be used for a long time. I wanted to name her Annabelle or Charlotte, but my husband didn't like those. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and know that all of the names you have chosen are beautiful!

I vote for Grace with Gracie as a nickname. I also like Faith.
"A" and "E" middle names go well with Grace. I think Grace Anne sounds nice. Other possibilities could be Ashley, Autumn, Agnes, Elaine, Ellen, Alice, Allie, Amelia, Adrianna. Grace MaKenna or Grace Nevaeh would give you the option of calling her 3 of your favorite names.

If you like those as your favorite (which are very nice!) I would name her Grace and call her Gracie as a nicname. You could even use something like Gracyn and use both as nicnames. I would pick a middle name with more than one syllable I think. You could use one of the other names you like for a middle name, like Makenna (which by the way, Iwould not make the K a capital so it doesn't look like a last name). But what I would really suggest is using a family name for the middle name. Then you could continue on this tradition with your other children by using family names from either side for each middle name. Actually, R. would be perfect sounding, and it would make her feel special. Grace R.. Very nice.

I know you've already gotten all the advice you're looking for, but I just thought I'd add. We also loved the name Gracie, but wanted something different from Grace. So, we named our daughter Graycen and call her Graycie all the time. Her middle name is Elizabeth.
