Hi,
I will try not to make this question too long.. :) need advice..please.. My right ankle on the top started hurting out of the blue in the middle of the night.. so painful that the covers hurt to touch.. Hurt so bad that I took 5 over the counter advil.. it got better during the day to a dull ach.. went to dr.. said oh tendonitis.. said I have been doing the same exercise routine for 7 years with the elptical, circut training classes.. and personal training 1 time a week... so it went away over christmas break.. But then out of the blue last week I had painful ankle episodes in the middle of the night out of the blue.. so painful to touch at night couldnt sleep ect... this time on the other ankle? Litterally craweled to the bathroom in middle of night grabbed advil took 5.. Then pain dulled over the the day but still there.. I went to the dr.. that afternoon.. a different one.. he was thinking gout? I had never heard of it.. did x ray fine and uric acid blood test came back at level 6.. so he said not super high.. so he wants me to see a rehumotlogist? I do take quite a few meds.. for Pcos? anyone ever had gout and blood test did not come back super high? do u think maybe the advil played into the test results? So far in the past 2 and half months I have had 4 eposides at night..
Thank you for your help,
L.

Gout is a collection of uric acid & purines in your joints. My dad gets it really bad if he eats too much of these things. He has to really watch his intake of red meat, shellfish and green leafy veggies. Any of those sound familiar to your diet the nights before? I would certainly see the specialist. When my dad gets so bad that it's swollen that much and you can't even look at it without it hurting, his numbers always reflect it. There may be something different happening. Good luck!

wow....see the specialist! You are taking way too much Advil! Taking 5 at a time will create other issues!

Also, a MRI might show better what's going on in those ankles.

Regardless, definitely seek further medical diagnosis.......

Gout. If it is go to the health food store buy concentrated cherry juice. It's about 8 oz at most. Drink the whole thing. Bye, Bye Gout.
If it is gout do not eat pork, beer, sausage, more than 4 oz or red meat 2x a week. Don't eat spinach or cauliflower.
If it is Rheumatism. Get Rhus Tox 30c and take it an hour before bedtime. Take it again when you wake up. If the ankle problem goes away you have the right remedy. For Rheumatism take aspirin. Yes, it won't hurt you. It is just White Willow Bark which is an anti-carcinogen.
I take two 500mg every morning as so I can move my fingers and every other joint.
Gout can be inherited and then the count on the test means nothing. Did any of your grandparents have gout?

As Laeh-maggie said, drink cherry juice and/or eat cherries. Don't expect any miracle cures from it though. Make sure you have good pain meds (obviously).

Stay away from the foods she listed. (There are others, as well. I'm sure the internet will tell you.)

My brother gets gout and it sounds excruciating. It doesn't go away overnight, though. If yours is, you may want to consider other possibilities.

Hi Lenc,

Sue's right about the Advil....Angie's right about the gout....Gout is a nutritional issue where the uric acid will build up at the lowest point in your body...basically your ankles. If our body absorbs it's nutrients properly, you can eat these things that Angie said were triggers but you can't eat anything like this in abundance...(Gout used to be a rich man's disease...) What's happening is your body is leaching things and depositing them elsewhere...mainly your bloodstream. For instance, a kidney stone that are basically calcium is not an overabundance of calcium but a misabsorption of it.

Get on a absorbable multivitamin/mineral complex and drink lots of good water. Cut back on the red meat for now. Take what the rheumatolgist says with a grain of salt. Their training is specific and is NOT nutritionally oriented. Get several opinions as well.

Eating yogurt and taking cherry extract are two of the most common (and helpful according to people I have suggested it to) alternative helps....

God bless,

M.
