My sister called me last night to see if I had any FUNDRAISING IDEAS for their YOUTH GROUP in Mississippi that was different from what they've done in the past ... like bake sales, car washes, selling calendars, cookie dough, candy bars, Pizza Hut cards, baked potato sale, etc. Her husband is the youth pastor at a church in MS (where I moved from).

I have a few ideas but I was wondering what ideas you might have.

Maybe you've done some fundraisers with your CHURCH group or other groups that did really well and everyone seemed to enjoy doing it. I think they are looking for something that will inspire the YOUTH of their church to do their part in raising money for their group - maybe something with an incentive.

Thanks in advance for all of your ideas,
M. :)

Try this...

www.kidskards.com

The children make art and send it to this company. They scan and create cards out of the art of the child! They print sets of cards for the parents to buy. It's great to do for Xmas. Good luck!

PS - the lady who does this is GREAT to work with.

My husband's best friend is a youth pastor and he had his kids help him deliver phone books (the Yellow pages) to raise funds for church camp. It is hard work and not very much pay to do alone, but if you have tons of kids doing it you can get it done FAST and make some decent quick money!

Hi M.! Welcome to NKC!! Our church (Heartland Church of Christ) is sponsoring a Battle of the Bands on September 8th. I'm not certain of all the details but I could definitely find out for you if you like the idea. We also sponsor Youth in Action, a midwest youth "rally" in December and the winner of the battle gets to perform at YIA so that's our main purpose for the battle, but it's being used as a fund raiser as well.

We've also done dinner theaters for the church members. It's usually done in February as a Valentine's Day event.

And we always have the Job Bank open which is a way for members to "hire" kids for chores. They post a job in the bank and then it's taken on a first come first served basis. The money then goes into the teen's faith account and can only be used for church events. Chores include babysitting, mowing, leaf raking, cleaning for the elderly, washing windows...
Hope that helps!!

I am an independent rep of Scent-Sations which is a distributor of Mia Bella candles and all natural soaps. I haven't yet done a fund-raiser as I just got started. But the amount the schools and organizations can earn is about 5 dollars per candle. The candles retail for 18.95 plus tax and shipping. I'm expecting my first order this week which is huge. I would be happy to meet with someone to let them sample the scents.

I would love you help your sister out with your fundraising needs. I sell Avon and we offer a fundraising solution. Please pass my information along to her and we can see what will work for her group.

First of all, congrats on getting your group started! Taking the first steps of forming a group can always be a trying process... kudos for giving it a go!

One of the first things can really help getting started is finding ways to get organized early on. Coming up with the tools to manage your members, plan your events and get the word out about everything you do can be tricky.

I'd say the best way to get a jump on this: set up a group home page on a fundraising website. Many of them are free to use and can offer new groups amazing tools to organize, find new volunteers and raise awareness for a cause (regardless of whether you actually want to fundraise). Some require that you have non-profit status to form a group, but plenty others will give student groups, church groups and other groups without non-profit status some awesome ways to help get your group off the ground.

For example, one good site to help new groups is GroupSpaces (www.groupspaces.com). They offer plenty of tools to help get groups off the ground, including some event management functions that let you create events, as well as managing your members. And if you're interested in fundraising for your group eventually, they can link to your account and charge 2.5% of donations received (while some other sites charge as much as 5%).

Another good option would be Empowered.org (www.empowered.org). It is a bit newer than GroupSpaces and their platform is geared more towards social action, but are open to all small groups, regardless of non-profit status. Also, they offer plenty of solid tools to help new groups, and give groups the ability to create specific volunteer activities and events for each group (which GroupSpaces doesn't do). And if you ever were interested in fundraising, they offer specific fundraising campaigns (and charge 1.5% of donations) - nice if you ever go down that road.

There are some other sites worth looking into - MeetUp is another one that helps groups, but doesn't offer as many tools as the other two I mentioned. Anyways, I really think that setting a home would really help jump start the group-starting process.

Hope that helps! Good luck with your group going forward.

When I was in Youth group we rent ourselves out. Whatever people need done (shopping, yard work, ect.). We mostly goto help the elderly. We also did a Dinner party. We come up with a theme and cook and some kinda of entertainment (one year we did Paris). Charge money to get in. Walk-a-thon is also good way to raise money. I hope this is good ideas.
