I am not familiar with the gophone. My daughter is 12 and we just added her to our plan. It was $9.99 a month to add to our plan. We got her the motorola razor because it has a lock feature. We locked her address phone so that she could not add names to it. We locked her phone so that she could only send and receive calls from people in her address book. People not in her address book can still call her, but it goes right to voice mail. They can leave a message and she can call them from the home phone. For her birthday she wanted a not motorola phone that does not have this feature. AT&T has a new smart limits plan. You control her phone from the internet. You control times she can use her phone as well as numbers. We felt that the $9.99 was a better deal than any of the $20 gophone plans. Good luck.

Hi M.,
I recently recieved a go phone for mother's day as my other phone went a little wacky and would not let me see who was calling or access my phone book. I have been happy with it as far as the calling plan you would purchase not sure how that works as we are using the sims card from my old phone.
If you don't mind having a phone without all of the bells and whistles then I would recommend the Go Phone. I like the fact that the gophone gives you the option to save your number to the phone or the sims card, of course it comes with free ring tones and you have the option to purchase more as well as personalizing the wall paper.
The gophone is also set up for texting which seems to be the rage today, sorry can't tel you how that works as I have no clue how to text. Hope this helps any more questions let me know.

My friend had one for her 13 year old son - as a "just in case" situation. There were several times that they needed to call each other - bus late/broke down, missed bus, etc. The problem they had with it was the prepaid minutes expired before she/he could use them and when they did use the phone - it was at a premium. Might check to see if the prepaid minutes expire or rollover ... things may be more market savvy these days in light of all the competition.

She ended up adding her son to her family's package and the gophone went! :)

I work for AT&T. I had a GoPhone up until I got my free work account.

There are 2 plans for the GoPhone. The first plan is $1.00/day @ $0.15/minute with Unlimited Mobile to Mobile calling (the AT&T network). You are only charged the $1.00 when you use the phone. So if you do not use the phone one day, there will be no $1.00 charge. The other plan is $0.20/minute, no daily charge. $20 expires in 30 days. They do not rollover. Text messages are $0.15/message, $0.25/picture message.

When you've use up the money on the phone, the phone shuts off until more money is added. There are options to add the money automatically, or you can call in each month to add it yourself, or use the website.

If your teenager is well disciplined and understands the limitations of it, it's a good investment. If not, I'd suggest looking into Firefly type plans that only allow your child to call preprogrammed numbers.

I had a gophone. I didn't have any problems with it. I would how ever suggest the plan that allows him/her to call other att customers for free. Especially if you have Att. Go thier website and look for the GoPhone and then pick your plan.

I think that you are a very smart lady to go the prepaid route with your teenager.

Hope I helped.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with GoPhone.

Here is my little piece of advice though:
Before giving your daughter a cell phone consider a cell phone contract between you & your husband and her. There are many websites that have them and you can tailor one to fit your specific needs. We did this and it works great, he knows the rules, consequences, and even how to earn more privileges.
