O.O.
Well, I have a Dyson (about 11 years old) and I'd find a way to buy another if it died tomorrow. You get what you pay for, IMO.
I currently have a dyson I purchased 9 years ago that is on it's last leg. I have been happy with it prior but I am not ready to spend that much on a vacuum this time around. Any recommendations for a good vacuum that is a reasonable price? I need one with a good hose attachment for stairs, etc as well as good on vinyl floors. Thanks!

I have to say that I really do like my Shark Rotator Professional vacuum. I've had it for about a year now and have been very happy using it. It's lightweight and I'm able to easily get under my couches. I have hardwood floors and carpet and it works well for both. The hose attachments are very handy too, I can literally vacuum my walls with them...the pollen has been awful here lately. I didn't think I'd like "bagless" but it doesn't bother me, easy to clean out. I think I paid around 250-300 for it and got a "free" steam mop with it which is also nice to have for the kitchen. Watch the infomercial...it pretty much sums it up, I'm usually pretty skeptical of those infomercial products but I've been satisfied with this purchase! It's relatively small too which makes it easy to store.
I love our Dyson. It's worth the money. You could buy a 'cheaper' vacuum that may only cost $150, but it may last a year or two.
I have an Oreck top end model.. Not cheap but fantastic machine.
Love it. I love it so much that I'm giving my current machine to my daughter so I can upgrade for myself!!
The cost is not that bad.. $600 or less and a good machine .
i have a Panasonic bag-less vacuum that I love. I vacuum a lot, and while I've used a Dyson in the past and found it good, I'd rather buy something cheaper as I tend to beat up vacuums every 4-5 years. I use it almost everyday.
My answer is an expensive one, but I say Kerby. They are super expensive, but VERY worth it, IMO.
In 1983, all my aunts/uncles/grandparents bought Kerbys, and my parents were finally convinced to get theirs in 1985-they ALL still work today. The bags are as easy to find as they ever were. I purchased my Kerby 3.5 years ago, it came with all the attachments, including a shampooer; and its 30 year old counterparts work just as well as it does. They are expensive (and heavy,) but when I added together the cost of all the vacuums I had purchased in the previous 15-20 years, I realized I had already paid more for those vacuums than I would on one Kerby (which I can assume will last practically forever, or at least 30 years.)
We hated our Dyson and replaced it with a Hoover Windtunnel. Love it! Much more lightweight, better suction power, more intuitive features. It was a fraction of what we spent on the Dyson. I really researched the alternatives before we bought again and this one had great reviews.
We couldn't afford a Dyson. We've been happy with our Shark Navigator Lift Off.
i'd have a hard time going to anything other than a dyson at this point.

10 years ago we kinda went nuts on a vacuum. we bought a tri-star for $2500.00! I know, a little much right? Well actually not really. It is still running like brand new! we have it serviced every three years to change filters, get the insides cleaned out and all the attachments cleaned. i can "sweep vacuum" my kitchen and it also has one of those attachments that gets deep into corners. It vacuums excellent! sorry not much advice on which one to get and i know a lot of ppl probably wouldnt spend that much on a vacuum, but we are happy with our purchase. :) Good luck shopping!
