Hi mommies,
I am in need! I have searched and searched for a good, reliable thermometer since my little boy was born 18 months ago! We have a digital one that reads in 5 seconds but I can never seem to get an accurate reading. I heard the ear thermometers are not accurate. Also, my son is 18 months and can't hold one under his tongue yet, so I need the brand name (specifics, please!) of a good one and where I can find it (Walgreens, Walmart, etc.) I want one with a very speedy read, too! With cold and flu season upon us, I want to be prepared! Thanks in advance!!!

What can I do next?

Consumer reports ranks several but the top two are
BD Digital Accu Beep #524030 and Vicks Comfort Flex #V965. I bought the Vicks one at CVS The both work oral, rectal, and underam.

I agree with you about the ear thermometers. I have one and I always take my boys' temp at least 3 times and it will give me a different answer every time. When my youngest was in the hospital about 2 months ago for walking pneumonia they had one that they just 'scanned' over his head. I need to look for one of those! :)

We also use the Exergen Temporal Scanner Infrared Thermometer. It's WONDERFUL! You scan it across their forehead and the reading is instant and accurate. We bought ours at Wal-Mart in the pharmacy section, and I think it was around $38. WELL worth it!
Hope this helps,

My pediatrician recommended a forehead thermometer for our 2 year old. I found the FeverScan forehead thermometer at Walgreens. I've used it on my daughter twice and it was quick and easy - perfect for a fidgety toddler. Hope this helps!

I just got wonderful advices from a friend of mine who has 3 children who are over 20 years old. She suggests forehead thermometer that can read in 15 seconds is her favorite theromemeter for her children when they were too young.

It's like a sticker theromemeter for the forehead.

I have a Parents Forehead Thermometer. It is within half a degree of a digital one. It reads fast and is easy to use. It came in handy just a couple of weeks ago when my son got his first ear infection. Good luck!

We had the Braun ear thermometer when our son was born and had no problems with it at all. There's a difference in temps in each ear, but that was normal. Ours was dead on accurate and easy to use. I broke it however. Now I have the forehead one and I do like it because I can take his temp without waking him up if needed, but wish I had spent a little more on a better one. My son is 4, so the high temps aren't as big of a problem as with a smaller one. I really liked the ear model and never had an inaccurate reading with it...whatever is said was the same as the drs. said too. Just giving my experience, they're not all as bad as reported.
