Hello Moms!
I have two questions here... My little boy is almost three and I was wanting to get him into a preschool two days a week. Is there any on the westside or in Rio Rancho that you would recommend? I don't want to pay an arm and a leg. If your child goes to a good one, what is the cost?
He is just past the cut off date for starting preschool. His birthday is September 2nd. I have been so frustrated because the cut off date for every school is the day before! No one will allow my son to start even though he's just a day past the deadline. Have any of you tried to get your child into a preschool a little early?

What can I do next?

I have a 4 year old son with a birthday just after the cut off date and I work in a public school and the best advice that was given to me was to not push putting him in school. There is a reason for the cut off dates and boys especially need that maturity and focus to start out school on the right foot. My son was not ready to start school when he was just turning 3 and now at 4 (almost 5) he will be starting preschool. Next year your son will be elegible to start Shining Stars Preschool and it is an excellent preschool that is free (if you live in Rio Rancho city limits) because it is run by the district. The application deadline is in April for 2009-2010.

If your son is extremely gifted and you believe he is ready for school, he can be tested and the school can then review those tests and admit your son. There are ways around it, but I wouldn't push it unless you strongly feel your son is ready.

I've heard that the Paradise Community preschool is wonderful. They fill up super quick but take 3 year olds. I was always very concerned with the Sept 1st cut-off date and I'm surprised that more people don't consider it when planning their families... luckly I ended up with 2 June Babies... I don't think you're going to get anywhere trying to get him into school early. I had a parent in my 2nd grade class a couple years ago who decided to home school all her kids because the 1st one was born on Sept 1.

My Daughter and my Son both have attened Kidszone in Rio Rancho and they loved it very much. My son has also attened SSP (Shining Stars preschool). My son was accepeted there because he needed Speech therphy because he was behind in talking when he was two. As per the women said about it being free you have to put your child's name into a lottery and they pull so many child each year to attend.
