My OB is the best there is for deliveries. He's amazing - my friends & I call him The Miracle Worker, mainly because he is able to deliver such a high percentage of babies without any rips or snips. Of the 16 babies born to 7 moms I personally know, only one of them had a tiny episiotomy with one of their babies - and he apologized up & down for having to do it. I'm a pretty small woman and was able to deliver an almost 9 pound baby with no damage. My sister, who has delivered 4 of her children naturally with a mid-wife was present for my first and was amazed as how good he was.

I know that he is very supportive of VBAC - one of my friends has had 3. I don't know how he feels about natural childbirth, but knowing his philosophy in other areas, I would be stunned if he wasn't very supportive of that as well.

His name is Stephen Voss. His office is at 850 E. 300 S. ph - ###-###-####.

I completely agree with the CNM. There are a lot to choose from. I know there are groups practicing at the U, Lds, and St. Marks for sure. I would recommend meeting with a few to interview and go with who feels best to you. Also there are quite a few links on here with a ton of recommended CMNs.

In all honesty, I would probably go with a CNM for a vbac and natural childbirth. You can be in the hospital, and have all the back up doctors right there if you need anything, but CNM's will give you time, patience, and also be willing to support natural childbirth.
There are CNM's everywhere. There's a clinic in the Avenues that deliver at LDS hospital, there is a clinic at IMC that delivers there, clinics down in Riverton, etc.
I have worked with a couple of OB's that have supported natural childbirth. Dr Steven Thackeray said that hardly any of his patients go natural, but that he was supportive, and he was great at the natural childbirth of one of my clients. Another doctor who was back up to a CNM who was delivering twins, was supportive and willing to do a breech birth. Sometimes those doctors are also supportive of vbac and natural childbirth. His name was Christopher Hutchison.
I'd also suggest that if you get an OB, hire a doula to assist you and your partner through natural childbirth. It also shows the doctors you are serious about natural childbirth. Dr. Thackeray even suggests a doula to his clients who want to go natural.
But going back to the first part of my statement, if you choose a CNM you will probably be less likely to have an AROM, be given time to go past your due date if needed, and more of a gentle labor. I think another thing that you are doing which is great, is finding out everyone's opinions! You have to do a lot of research on OB's and if they really support VBAC and natural childbirth. A lof them will say they do, but you need to find one that really will.

Look in to OB/GYN Associates. They are located across the street from St Marks Hospital (3900 S and abt 1100 E). I've been with Dr Yamashiro for 12 years now. He is very open to whatever options you want to explore for child birth as long as they are safe. He's always listened and treated me as an individual, too. One thing that impressed me is when I had a questionable mole "down there" and he was deciding whether to remove it -- part of his decision process was "what would I do if it was my wife." It definietly felt like he was looking out for my well-being and not just going with the easiest or cheapest solution.

There are a couple of other doctors and several CNM's in the practice too. It is a "private practice" (so not an HMO or anything) but they take almost every insurance. They do tend to be busy, but they seem to have enough appointments set aside for expecting moms to get in as soon as they need to (the waits tend to be more for the routine yearly's etc). I believe their number is ###-###-####
