Good Bras

I need help big time. My 15 year old daughter is a size 36 ddd and pretty particular (as all of us ladies are!!) about her bras. We have tried Victoria's secrets and Macy's but the bras; well they just don't last. I know there are so many online sites but she is a teenager and wants to see and try them on. I can't say as though I blame her. So where do u bigger busted ladies go? Or maybe a name brand that someone could recommend so i can find it close by; have her try it on and then order online. She gets so discouraged because not to many places carry her size in stock.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies for all advice. I. Had her sized and the places we went pulled out "old lady bras" as my daughter calls them. So the shopping will commence this weekend. I didn't realize how difficult it was as I'm not as blessed as she.

The Cacique brand carried by Lane Bryant have great bras and have sales all the time. I love their no wire bras and don't buy anything else anymore.

I would make a trek to Nordstrom. Call first and make an appt. for a fitting and tell them beforehand the size you are looking for and they will pull them. I recently had a fitting there. All of my bras were so uncomfortable and I was over it. I actually found out that I had been buying the wrong size all of these years! Amazing. She also pointed out several tips that will be useful in the future when I shop on my own.

Oh, and she told me that women should come in every six months for a new fitting. I don't know if I'll do that, but just consider that our bodies do change and that will also affect how our bras fit. Good luck!

Nordstroms... they don't keep "odd" sizes (38DDDD is me) on the floor... you need to ask for them. Depending on time of year, when I walk in and say :

38 QuadD, demi, thin strapped, mostly lace, satin, or velvet aka no stretch!... I get anywhere from 6 to 20 bras brought out to me.

& If you're doing the college tour thing over here at the UW... be sure to stop by Zovo in university village!

I wound up at Lord&Taylor to get properly fitted and left with a whole bunch of Wacoal brand bras. Wait for Sunday coupon pullouts and head over to L&T for a fitting. I got mine at 40% off. Worth every penny for the bras. They still look as good as new 3 years later. Just don't ever put them in the dryer.

I get mine at Lane Bryant at the mall. They have nice sexy ones and then the more utilitarian ones too.

Victoria's Secret bras are pretty but they are not "functional" for someone with D cups. You need support.

I LOVE Wacoal bras. They have some that are not god awful ugly, great support and worth the $. Go have her fitted at someplace like Neimans, Nordstrom and invest in good bras. If she is 15 and that size now, she needs all the support she can get.

I vote for Cacique by Lane Bryant too .... have converted a friend, mom, and stepmom to them. They're great ... lots of styles / colors to choose from ... last a long time. Usually they're sold at buy one get one 50% off, but about twice a year they go on sale for buy two get two free. Be sure to check out their website.

I don't know who would carry them in your area, but Google Freya lingerie. They are a company in the UK that makes cute, fun bras and size-specific swimwear in cup sizes up to K or so.
Your daughter doesn't need a plus size, they often start at a band size 38, she needs bigger cups. I'm a 36G and all my favorites are from the UK. Some other brands to look for are Fantasie and Panache. I hope you can find some for her to try, but if not, try www.breakoutbras.com. Great selection, free shipping and great product descriptions to help you decide.

I found my best results at a women's foundation-garments/lingerie shop that was independently owned and operated (that is, not connected with department stores). I'm a harder size to fit correctly also (they don't carry the bras I need at department stores). The store I go to also carries medical prosthesis and does bridal lingerie fittings.

Be aware that this sort of independent shop may require an appointment and that there may be a charge for a bra fitting if you choose not to buy a bra there. I will say, though, that they are usually far better stocked with a wider array of bras (including more styles in larger sizes) than your average dept. store. So check your local yellow pages--it might look like an 'old lady' store, but I think your daughter will be happier with what's available.

The next fitting I do, and it will be soon, I'm going to J.C. Penney. I had my first fitting as a teenager and since then, whenever I've gone elsewhere to be fitted, it hasn't been as successful. It could have been that the bra fit okay, but just didn't feel good on me! When I've gone to Penney's, I tell them, I'm slightly allergic to certain rubber or plastic ingredients, I prefer cotton-nothing lacey, satiny, shimmery, etc., I don't like anything touching me, (funny when purchasing a bra, but they somehow know what I mean) and I really don't like wearing a bra at all. As soon as I come home from work, I take it off-they're just not my thing. They always seem to find something for me.
When I was pregnant and nursing, they did a great job, too. I'm very small busted, but had LOTS of milk all the while I nursed, and was so happy they helped me with nursing bras, which I had to wear 24/7.
Now, I may even go there this weekend, thanks for the post and reminding me it's time-I've shifted again!

Good luck,
Mary

Have you tried calling the store before visiting to see if they can get in some sample bras in her size? Maybe if you explain the situation, they could do that for you...I'm not really sure, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. Good luck!!
