Good At-home Deep Hair Conditioner for Kids

The summer has taken a toll on my girls' hair (9 and 6.5). We have used clarifying shampoo and the special swimmers shampoo but their hair remains brittle. Back to school haircuts are on the" to-do" list but I'd also like to try an at-home deep conditioning treatment.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

BTW, they are Caucasian with semi thick straight hair.

I asked my stylist a similar question about my daughter. She said she could either pick up a treatment for me or I could go to Sally Beauty Supply and get it myself. I opted to go to Sally. The lady working there was a stylist herself and was very helpful. I thought I knew what I was buying but once I got there, I was overwhelmed at all the different options. They even have single use packets if you don't need/want a large bottle. I just went online to find their locations & there were several near me. I think you might be able to order online too. I think the packet I bought was $2.19. Good Luck!

I use Tresemme Deep Moisture on my daughter's hair and it works great. My sister is a cosmetologist and suggested that I wash her hair and then put the conditioner on, wrap it in plastic wrap and leave it for 1 hour, then wash it out. I have done that several times this summer and it helps keep my daughter's hair soft and silky.

Aussie makes that "3 minute deeeep conditioner." Thre's one that is is for "smoothing" and I didn't like that one. Granted I have curly hair. I got the one that said "deeeep" conditioning and love to use it once a week.

Or go to Sally's beauty supply and see what they recommend. I bet they've got the good stuff. :)

My daughter sounds alot like your two. (Mine is 10, btw). Her locks always get a little rough by the end of summer, even though I typically have her shower and wash/condition her hair within an hour of getting out of the pool each day. By summer's end.. well... We get a little lax about it sometimes.

I just never use "kids" shampoos or conditioners on her hair. I started buying her the same stuff I use on mine when she was around 8. It really helps. And like you said... the post summer time split ends trim. :)

Biolage, So Sexy, any of the "salon" products will really help. Just ask them to make a recommendation. Tell them what you are looking for (a good quality everyday conditioner for someone who swims and has ___ type of hair). If you want to pony up for a "deep conditioner", ask them specifically about that. I wouldn't think you'd need to go quite that far, though.
Good luck. :)

Oh.. and I ALWAYS ALWAYS comb out my daughter's (long, straight, fine hair) with a WIDE toothed comb immediately after she gets out of the shower. If it isn't "slick" enough from the conditioner still, then I use a spray in conditioner from Matrix (not the "kids" stuff) to help.

Sally Beauty Supply has a reconstructing condition that they tell you to use after you color your hair. When I color, mine it's a brittle mess, till I put that conditioner on. Then it turns silky smooth.

I swear by shea butter leave in conditioner. You can use it as a deep conditioner (use a lot of it) or as a weekly conditioner (use less). It's amazing - makes my hair and my girls so much healthier looking, fuller, fewer tangles, etc. The brand I have is Shea Moisture and I purchased it through Amazon.

My kids swim on swim team 5 days a week during the summer.. I like Paul Mitchell clarifying shampoo.. And detangler conditioner. Then 2 a week I have them use biologage conditioning balm.. And have them leave it on for awhile. If you have ulta beauty stores they have good sales right now in store and online.

You can do the home remedy and use mayo or olive oil as a deep conditioner.
