I've always used "Clean Well".. Alcohol free! It's made for kids.. You can get it at Target or a health food store~
Hey mom's! I have a son who loves to touch himself during a diaper change and I am wondering what's a good sanitizer that I can use on his hand. I of course encourage him not to while he's messy, but that's of course hard to always do when he's also squirming and getting pooh everywhere! I would just use soap and water, but he's only 10 months so it would be hard to maneuver him over the sink. I haven't seen any at the stores I go to.
Thank's mama's! So I would just tuck him under the crook of whatever, but he is a giant baby and refuses to be held down in anyway so unfortunately doing that would result in one of us getting hurt.
I did forget about the gold bond! I'll go get some of that!

Gold Bond has an alcohol free santizer that moisturizes.
I found one at Rose's store. It is a foaming hand sanitizer that was alcohol free. You can find it more now than we they first started making it. I wish I could remember the name for you.
I like Bert's Bee's hand sanitizer. It smells nice and is in a little spray bottle. If there is poop on his hands though, make sure that you use a wipe to get that off, and the sanitizer just to make sure that the germs are gone.
I actually read in a parenting magazine that if it's not convenient to wash your hands, using a baby wipe after a diaper change is fine. Personally, I would use the wipe but then a sanitizer after. I use Babyganics.
Cetaphil cleanser is great. We use it as "hand washing cream" and it's at every sink in the house. I got really bad eczema after my first child and my dermatologist recommended Cetaphil to me. It cleans as well as alcohol but doesn't chew up your hands. After cleaning a poopy diaper, though he said to use soap and water.
Talk to your Dr. or their nurse, I'll bet they have free samples of what they like to use.
An interesting note...
As a licensed home child care provider in CO, I am required to wash each child's hands after a diaper change. This doesn't necessarily apply to newborns who are unable to reach their bottoms during a diaper change, but after that newborn stage we ARE supposed to wash their hands in the sink with soap and running water. Certainly by 10 mths they are ready.
No, it is not easy...but it does get them in a good habit! As soon as they are able, the kids love standing on a stool and washing up!
Hold him under the crook of your right or left arm so he is leaning over the sink, or loop your arms under his armpits and steady him while standing on one leg, and wash his hands with soap and water. You should do this whenever you get home from being out and before he eats. Definately do this if he has been playing in his poop. No it isn't easy but hand sanitizer should only be used as a last resort not as a subtitute for actual hand washing. IF YOU MUST rub hand sanatizer on your own hands then rub onto his hands and don't let him put his hands in his mouth until it dries. I am an adament hand washer on all my children even tiny infants and 2 of my 3 kids have never had an ear infection and one of my kids never had an antibiotic until she was 5. They are rarely sick. Handwashing is the best prevention.
Good question! It is hard to find. A really terrific hand sanitizer is made by the Young Living Essential Oils company and it's made from oils rather than alcohol. It has to be purchased through a rep and I can set you up with one if you'd like. Just email ____@____.com care!
