Please I hope someone can help me before I go bald from pullingm y hair out.
My son who just turned 4 the first of NOV. still does number 2 in his pants. I have tried everything to get him to use the potty. He pees in the potty with no trouble and even gets up in the middle of the night to pee, but for some reason he dont like to poop in the potty. I have tried the chart and stickers and getting him something speacial if he goes a whole week, I bought him a sponge bob seat to go over the big seat. I have sat him in the corner even bribed him with money. nothing works. I am tired of washing underwear everyday. Please I pray there is someone out there that can help me out!!

What can I do next?

Haven't poddy trained yet but my mother-in-law tells me about when she was training my husband. She had had enough and finally told him the next time it happened, he had to clean up himself, pants and all. He did it...and he cleaned it! He never did it again. I know it may seem harsh but it might just work! I would try anything at the point you are at! Hope that helps!!

This is pretty normal, even at 4yrs old. All 3 of my sons were the same as yours. My youngest who is 5 now, got potty trained right before he went to pre-school. He couldn't wear pull ups to school so he had accidents in his underwear all the time. Most of the time he was home when this happened. But he is in kindergarten now and he is going on the potty and no accidents. I can't really give you any advice except to be patient. But it will get better.

My son had the same problem only not for so long. One thing you can try is to make a huge party of it when he does go #2 on the potty. Has he ever done it? If and when you get him to make a huge party, dance and sing and do something special and tell him how proud you are. Be really outrageous!Sometimes just a little encouragement can work. We also used a potty video that showed a little girl on the potty and sang a song about Super Dooper Poopers. Very silly, I know, but it worked. When my son went #2 on the potty we sang that song and danced and soon he got the hang of it. Good luck and lots of patience to you!!

I cna;t offer much but some asurane of how normal this is. I too am going through the sme thing. my daughter will be 4 in 2 months and she asks for a diaper so she can go poop. i was told to let her have the diaper but in exchange make her sit on the pot with a diaper so she can get use to going poop there, I also tried the sticker poop chart, bribing her, begging her, crying, there isn't much I have not tried. The doctor assured me that we rarely see 12 year olds going poop in there pants so not to worry, this is just another hurdle.I have also recived many responses here that women tell me there children have done this or still are, and I mean I got so many notes sent to me here about this. it is so normal, the kids feel like if they poop on the pot that they are losing a part of there bodies that its falling off of them. they also like to go hide when they poop, so if they go on the potty they are not able to hide.Just have patience and know there is no way your child will do this forever but there is no way you can make it happen before he is ready, we are powerless over them and have to just allow them to be where they are until they are ready to move on. The ggod news is they will one day use the potty to poop, no matter what they will give up and go on the potty, i promise you this. Thanks!

hi D.,

i went through the same w/ my oldest, & i am going through it w/ our 2 y/o. Ughhh! With our oldest, after the frustration of cleaning underwear and him "showing" us him going in his pullups, I started to tell him that "mr. pottty" needed to eat too, not just drink. How corney was that? but it worked for some reason.

My 2 y/o pees in the potty if he is running naked, then if he has to do a number 2, he will cry until he has a diaper on. I feel your pain!!

Hope this helps a bit & let me know what works for you so we can try it here when the time comes!!

Reading this discussion board changed our lives,in that I found out what to do and what to insist on at the next doc appt. We went to three docs before finally getting someone to test my son.
http://www.aboutencopresis.com/

That said, they won't diagnose a 4yo, we had to wait until 8, but if you take the info on Encopresis to your doctor, it might sway him/her to follow through with treatment.

Good luck. And feel free to message me about it if you need someone to talk to.

Hi D.,
I am right there with you girlfriend! I have the exact same problem with my 3 1/2 yr old. So I don't have any answers for you, but I took my son to the Dr about it and he does have a phyiscal issue as well as the mental issue. We was having trouble with constipation (even though he was going number #2, he wasn't going all the way, so he was getting backed up). The constipation then streches the rectom and then it hard for him to push it out even if it was soft enough. He couldn't control when his body decided to "rid" itself. My point is that there could be a physical reason that he is having trouble. After we get the phyiscal issue taken care of, the Dr suggested putting him on the potty every so often and making him sit there awhile and try. It is time consuming and frustrating, but it has worked from time to time. I have gone from 5-7 dirty pairs of underwear to one or two. I am so tired of it too. Nothing seems to motivate him to try and make it to the bathroom before he goes. They have to learn sometime don't they...lol! Hang in there and know you are not alone, I am going bald right along with you!

I really dont know what to tell you, since you work full time except if at all you can take a week off from work and train him, it can be done you have to have patience. Also dont bribe him, it makes it worse cause they expect it all the time, work with him, with my oldest who is nine now, he was 2 when he wasa trained and for a month he would always go hide and pooped in his pants and eventually I got tired of cleaning his underwear, I had to hold him on the toilet to get him to go he went, after that i never had a problem with him ,the whole time he had a fear of going to poo, the dr.s say that is hurts them because when they wear diapers it is there but the toilet i thas far to go so they fear that. Good luck and hang in there.
