Just wondering if anyone has any advice or do's and don'ts about IVF? Its a pretty scary time right now and I am already very emotional and have not even started on all the meds yet!

What can I do next?

As most of the people have already said the best thing is to try and relax. I went through 3 IVF cycles and I know how hard and stressful it can be. I was told to have a day of bedrest after the transfer and I think the more time you can spend resting the better. My 1st cycle failed but I was overtired and working, the second I tried to rest more and it did work but was an ectopic and the third I dedicated everything to being as relaxed as I could be and took a leave from my job and I now have a 16 month old! Also, I think trying to stay positive and believe it will work can help. Don't be afraid to ask any and all questions to your DR so you will feel at ease and informed. Good Luck, I wish you the best.

Eliminate any stressors in your life that don't need to be there. Be selfish- this is about you and your family- only people who are positive influences and can help de-stress your life should be involved right now.

Get accupuncture, massages, more massages, rest, take time off work... The more relaxed you are, the better your chances are. Work out a plan with your husband (if you are married) to NOT fight even though the stress will make it easier to fight. Find ways to avoid arguments, go to the movies, eat out...

Remember, the end goal is for a baby and that precious thing will be worth everything you have to go through to have this experience!! Good luck.

C.,
As someone who has successfully been through InVitro Fertilization, my best advice to you is...relax. It is already a very stressful situation that you are in and you will make yourself sick with worry. As hard as it seems now, you should try to relax and remember why you are doing this. It will all be worth it in the end.
I wish you luck!

very emotional stressful and scary time...we've done it twice. There are no tips i can think of that the clinic doesnt generally cover very well, if you have any questions, dont hesitate to ask them, in our experience they are super supportive, I wish i could have used my dr as our ob/gyn as well. Best wishes and good luck for your growing family.

I'll say a little prayer for you! I'd also urge you to try to stay relaxed--get a 90 minute massage right before your treatments. I haven't been there (am also TTC at 40years old!), but just wanted to send you my support. I'm rooting for you!

C., I have been through IVF before and it was successful for me. It did take a couple times to have a baby though. So don't get frustrated if it doesn't work on the first time. I was very devastated each time it didn't work but now when I look at my little one I know it was all worth it!! All the shots, mood swings and money. There is a great website that I used called www.afa.org There are doctors that volunteer to answer questions, and sometimes it is nice to get a second opinion. Good luck and God Bless!

I went thru invitro and and delivered at 42 with my own eggs. I am attributing it to a few things. 1st we changed our RE to Dr. Pearlstone and I think he was the true reason it worked. He doesn't run a invitro mill, and is very detailed and straight forward. At our age it is harder due to our egg quality, but it is not impossible. I would definately do accupuncture! I did it 3 days a week for the 2 weeks before. Find someone that specializes in it for fertility. And yes Relax. The meds are all hormonal so sometimes its not to easy. I said the motherhood prayer everyday until I delivered. Basically, just about anything I could do I did. I figured I had nothing to lose. Oh and I forgot this one. I also ate fresh pineapple 2 days bofore transfer and 3 days after. Don't rememeber where I heard that one. Good luck, and if you have any questions feel free to email me!
