Going Rate to Babysit Infant Twins??

Hello Mamas....

My husband & I are getting divorced and I will soon be a single Mom of twin girls (6 mos old). I was planning on being a stay at home Mom, but now have to return to work part time (2-3 days per week). I have a potential bartending job lined up and the hrs would be approx 4pm-12am (that way I can be with my girls during the day). The hardest part of this whole thing is now trying to find a responsible person, that I trust to watch them while I am at work ;-( The girls go to bed about 8/8:30 so for half the time they will be asleep.

Does anyone know what the going rate is for something like that?? I can't afford a lot, but also want to make sure that I pay someone "enough". I was thinking $50 per day, do you think that is fair? I have never had to do this before & know twins can be intimmidating. Any suggestions on where to find a GOOD sitter? I've checked with church, friends etc . and so far not much luck.

Thanks

What can I do next?

I'm sorry for your situation of having to start over. The hours you need sound good for a college age girl who has classes through the day, or maybe even retired person who can be available only 2-3 days a week.

I live in Ohio, and I'm assuming Vegas is certainly quite different, but $50 a day sounds a little high. The rates in the midwest must be lower. But we are talking twins here, twice the work. You're likely to find care from someone who would ask for less. $40 or so for each evening. I'm not sure. Good luck!

My daughter babysits for a few families in the neighborhood. They pay $5 per child per hour.
YMMV

Hi T.,

I am a mother of twins myself, (2.5 yr olds) and I too struggled in the beginning to find an excellent babysitter, since we do not have any family members in town.

I have used Nannies and Housekeepers USA (www.nahusa.com) exclusively whenever we needed a babysitter. I never trusted craigslist to find a sitter as I know that can be a hit or miss. I have been lucky to have the same person each time. We enrolled in the Babysitting registry, which can be pricey (we were lucky to get it heavily discounted as a special they were running at the time). The nanny gets paid 12/hr with a minimum of 4 hours. However, my nanny is really great with the kids, and the customer service from the company is top-notch.

You can check their website and maybe give them a call and talk to them, if you are interested. You are welcome to message me if you want to talk

I hope this helps

I pay my sitter $10/hr to watch my twins. For dates we pay the same if they are asleep but perhaps you could negotiate something lower if you don't mind your sitter sleeping once the kids are down. My sitter is looking for more hours, it you want to interview her, message me with your info and I can pass it on to her. I am in Henderson, NV but she lives in LV. She works for me at 7 am-noon Wed-Fri and has a couple of other families.
