hi moms,
my almost 1 year old has been fighting his naps more and more over the past few weeks.
he naps from 10-11:30am and then again from 2:30-4pm.
He goes to bed at 7:30pm and i wake him at 7am.(sleeps sound through the night)
now he pushes his morning nap til' about 10:30-11am and absolutely fights his afternoon nap! put him in the crib at 2:30 he cries for 45 mins then sleeps for 30 mins and is up by 4pm.
i thought they take 2 naps until about 18 months ???
should i still lay him down for 2 naps or just try 1 nap mid day ?
thank you for all advice
D.

D.,

As a mother to 3 boys, let me give you this advice. They start to wean themselves off of naps. He is at that point where is ready for only one nap a day and it will be a nap that will last anywhere between 1 1/2 to 3 hours. Try laying him down between 11 and 11:30 to start and work from there to see what works for him, he will let you know. Let him sleep until he wakes up. Keep his routine the same at night. I have kept my boys routine the same at night and it has worked great. When they turned one they only wanted the one nap at noon, then to bed at night around 7:45/8:00 and then they were up between 6:00 and 6:30 (no need for me to wake them) they were getting plenty of rest.

Hope this helps to ease your mind a bit.

Good luck.

Hey D.,

I so share and feel ur concern. I have a baby boy myself who turned one on the 25th of November and experinced the same thing. Nap times became a complete struggle and a fight. He is or was on a similiar routine as ur son and then at one in the afternoon still no sleep. I am a SAHM and I must say it makes my job a lot harder. On top of all that I have to deal with the fussiness and constant running back and fourth (he hates to be confined and he walks and runs very well).

Pretty much I just had to mstruggle with it. I cant say it got that much better. The naps become shorter. I was told that he is getting older so less sleep. He will eventually go down to once a day.All I can say, I guess its normal and just try to handle it as best as possilble.

Hello,
My name is Kathy. Hope you are doing okay! My son never did take naps, nor my 2 nieces. So he is fine! Some children don't need to nap. If they take an occasional nap- i felt blessed! Smile. So please be assured this is normal behavior! The kids are fine!
God bless you & Your Family,
TRULY,
Kathy N.
