All things Veggie Tales are wonderful! Books, DVDs, toys, Nativity, etc. All things 3-2-1 Penguins are also GREAT!...books, DVDs, etc.
My daughter(21yrs old) is a Godparent to her cousin (4yr old boy-Catholic faith). I am having a hard time helping her with gift ideas for birthdays,Christmas and other occasions. We like our gifts for our Godchildren to have a faith tone. Being the child is boy and his age makes if a little more difficult to think of something appropriate and meaingful. Has anyone started collections or themed gifts? Any good books? He does live about 4 hours away. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have had the best success at religious gift stores, such as Seedlings in Chanhassen. I go there and have a hard time choosing there are so many wonderful items. I don't know where you live, but hopefully you can find a place like this in your area.
I've given up on buying gifts and have started 529 savings plans instead. I always send a card with a certificate indicating that money was set aside for the child's college. I always make sure that my written message in the card is faith based. I also periodically send the parents a copy of the statements for the account. The money will never amount to much, but it will be a nice gift for college on hs graduation day.
Trying to include the faith element can make it a bit more challenging, but my 5 year old boy absolutely went bonkers over the Playmobile Noah's Ark he saw at Family Christian store last week. It is quite expensive and didn't come home with us, but there are lots of fun toys there that he has loved looking at. Your daughter could check their website if they don't have a store near you. Also, she could start him on a lego collection or playmobile collection. Even if you can't include a faith element with each gift, your daughter's act of dilligently remembering this child is serving that purpose. Add a Christian card and that might be perfect touch!

This is a lovely, simple book. My son got it from his godparents when he was three, and still enjoys it (at 5, when he's starting to read it himself.)
Sandy Eisenberg Sasso also has a bunch of really great books - God's Paintbrush and In God's Name and a bunch of retelling of bible stories.
T. , I live in Davenport and we have The Religious Supply Store in the East Village , they sell lots of nice things metals, books , statues ect. I often get things for my Godchildren there and my own children and my 2nd grade students whom recieve their 1st Holy communion. You may be able to find them online by googling them I'm pretty sure they have a website. Also a good thing is veggie tales movies if you can find them my 4 children have loved watching them my oldest is 10 and he will still sit with his little sisters and watch once in awhile. Good luck.

Oh! All kinds of stuff! Um, things that my kids have gotten...there is a Noah's Ark from either Little People or Playmobil that's a bigger gift, but an awesome thing...Playmobil makes a nativity toy that my kids ADORE and it's about 20$ and available at Target--my kids always want to play with MINE, and I'm so thankful someone got them one they can play with and explore. Veggie Tales movies would go over very well with a four year old (if you're unfamiliar--vegetables act out the stories of the Bible--they're very well done and fun to watch)(you can find a few of them at Target; otherwise, you could order off amazon or maybe they're available at a Christian bookstore). We also have several CDs of Veggie Tales songs that we listen to in the car--my kids love those, too, and even I enjoy listening to them. If you head to a Christian bookstore, you'll find all kinds of age-appropriate books; there are even a few available at mainstream stores. My kids have enjoyed one about the good Samaritan, they have TONS of Noah books, my older son has a book about being a godly boy, we have the story of Elijah (my son is Elijah, too), a number of children's Bibles, a book of children's Christian songs (This Little Light, He's Got the Whole World--my kids love this book)...anyway, look around and you can find all kinds of Christian themed stuff. A word of warning on teh books, though--if his parents and others in his life are regularly involved in their faith life, I might steer away from teh most obvious stories--we have probably 15 copies of hte Noah story, and it's getting a little old. :) But there are kid versions of many, many Bible stories, and my kids have really enjoyed other stories on their level, too. Good luck!
You mentioned books and that made me think of a set my son has. Their are 3 books in the set of Little Blessings: "What Is God Like?", "What about Heaven?", and "Are Angels Real?." The author is Kathleen Long Bostrom and illustrated by Elena Kucharik. The books are easy to read with very cute pictures and gets kids asking questions about God and Heaven. I hope this helps.
For Christmas I try to get collectible Christmas tree ornaments each year that they can take to their own homes someday. My 4 yr old also has his own children's Bible that he loves to read or have read to him. My older son has a devotional book for boys, there have been a couple age ranges on those so far for 7-8 yr olds and now he is in the pre-teen one as he is 10. I live in Nebraska so i can't give u the names of stores to go get these where ever u are, but they have been helpful and great ideas for my kids!
Hope this helps.

Look for kids music cds by Go Fish. They are a Christian group and have fun songs for preschool age kids.
Check out holyheroes.com and I'm sure you'll be able to find something. I'm sure would be able to find something and have it shipped directly to him too.
This is a great book about the Pope and his cat.

I'm Godmother to two terrific boys. And a mother of three girls so I can understand where you are coming from. I have given my godsons a piggy banks, books, on their baptism I always give them a cross for their room with a little boy on it, all which I purchased from the christian stores. I know as they get older it will get harder and harder to buy them things they will like but I also want them to know how special they are to me. I wish you the best!
Have you tried Northwestern Book Stores? I usually go there when looking for gifts for my Godchild. They have a great assortment of religious-themed items, including books, collectibles, room decor, even toys, games & puzzles! The staff have always been helpful to me when I'm trying to pick out gifts. I believe there are several locations around the Twin Cities. Sorry I don't have anything more specific to recommend.
