Gluten Sensitivity - Manhattan Beach,CA

My son tested positive for gluten sensitivity. He just turned 1. He has not had much gluten yet, as I suspected he may not be tolerant. Thus the challenge begins to feed him gluten free as well as casein free, as he is allergic to milk protein as well. If you are currently dealing with such an issue, I'd appreciate any words of wisdom. I also have 2 other children to feed and because they are all so young (1,1 and 3) I'm wondering if it would be easier to feed all 3 gluten free. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

R.,

My son doesn't have gluten sensitivity, but he is lactose intolerant and members of my family have food allergies. So, to maintian a happy and healthy household we all use dairy free milk and we don't purchase foods that would create of cause issues for anyone else in the household.

It just give a little piece of mind that you're not going to have to monitor or double check someone plate or wash hands every five seconds just to be careful.

Hope that helps and good luck!!

If you go onto www.talkaboutcuringautismnow.com website and click on the GFCF diet link, you can access a list of gfcf products that you can buy in the supermarket. They also have recipes and a 10 weeks to GFCF guide that you can follow.

In addition to this, you can also sign up to become a member of the GFCF Kids and/or GFCF Recipes Yahoo groups. I would actually recommend that you do join them because the members there are pretty knowledgable and it's a great source of current information and support so that you don't feel as if you are you are going this on your own.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to send me an e-mail and I would be glad to help you out anyway I can.

Good luck to you and your son.

Because they are so young, it will be easier for you to make the whole family gluten and casein free, exceptions given to the adults in the house. In doing so it also erases any possible accidental exposure, ie: kids sharing food, and any unhappiness ie: why can't i have that? Also by making it so that all three kids eat the same diet, if one of the others happens to have a milder version or just sensitive, you're doing that one a favor too.

Look for websites that are for food allergies and kids. There's plenty out there to help you find a support group or network, as well as merchants and bakery shops that specialize in food without gluten and casein (and bunches of other allergy foods too!)

Best of luck.

Hi R.,
I have a million food allergies, so I know how overwhelming it can be to have to cut out foods, esp. when they seem to "hide" everywhere. I've found http://gnowfglins.com to be a good source of alternative recipies.
