Not many responses just yet, so I thought I'd chime in. I am on a gluten free diet as I've tested gluten intolerant.(Finally tested at age 43 and I'm now 44!) And KNOW I need to put my 5-year-old daughter on one. Her doctor wants to test her and I'm gearing up for it. We are going to be doing a full blood panel that includes gluten testing. She has ALL the symptoms. I am a single mom, and already it's challenging to even get her to eat. Furthermore, her father feeds her whatever SHE wants when she's with him. (Tons of wheat/gluten.) Thus my delay. I've been preparing her by mentioning things to her along the way about why mommy eats the way she eats and remarking to her about her tummy aches, constant gas, blushish/gray circles under her eyes, etc. I've let her taste the foods I eat and she spits them out. Nuf said! ;o) It's NOT going to be easy. Thus I'm waiting for her to get a little older so she can make choices and understand some of it for herself.

If you contact Mary Hunt at the Flower Mound Pharmacy you will get a wealth of information. She runs a small gluten free section in the store and her school age girls are also celiacs. She was very helpful to me when I started my journey.

I have a friend who lives just north of Austin. She has a daughter that was diagnosed with Celiac disease at 21 months. My friend also has it, but wasn't diagnosed until she was a teenager. She has opened an on-line bakery, that sells everything gluten-free. I know it is very difficult, especially for younger kids, to understand why they can't have a piece of birthday cake, cupcake, etc.... She is offering all of those things gluten-free. We are gluten free in our household and our 2 1/2 year old daughter attends MDO (Mother's Day Out) in Rockwall. The preschool, called Stepping Stones Preschool, is very accommodating to our needs and looks out for the best interests of our daughter.

We bring all her food and her teachers store the left overs in the fridge. We have a special snack, Gorilla Munch cereal (GF), which I get at Herb Mart in Mesquite (locations also in Dallas and Plano), that she eats while the other kids eat graham crackers or goldfish.
