Gluten Free Cakes

Hi Moms,

Do any of you know of a bakery that makes gluten free cakes? I called around to many health food stores, and found out that Central Market makes one type of gluten free cake, but the woman kind of scared me. She said the cake part doesn't taste good because there is no sugar in it at all. The frosting part is cocoa and sugar. But even with the frosting, the woman said she doesn't like it. I have to give her credit for her honesty, however. I am wondering if there is another place that makes tasty gluten free cakes. I already called Whole Foods, Sprouts, and Market Street, and they do not make them. Any help on this matter would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!! M.

Delicious-n-fit in Plano is an entirely gluten free bakery/restaurant: www.delicious-n-fit.com
She can make basic decorated cakes in house and she uses the designs from Cakes Amore for fancier items (they're still baked in house to avoid the cross contamination).

And, they taste great! They are made from scratch and taste far better than any that you'll find at any of the other places you've already called. They are closed on Sun. and Mon., but you may get a response via email if you have specific questions before then.

She can also make cakes that are free of other allergens, as well as sugar free. She'll make you exactly what you need. Take a look at the cakes on the website - they're under the "shopping" button on the top right of the webpage.

Hello Michelle,

For the past 5 1/2 years I've been making our birthday cakes. my favorite is the pineapple cake from www.reallygreatfoods.com. Their cakes are awsome! if you need to avoid eggs, then you can use egg substitute too!
The frosting I make it with palm oil (spectrum vegetable shortening) instead of butter, powdered sugar & vanilla extract. we had to keep in mind multple allergies (wheat/gluten/soy/nuts/milk/ragweeds: sunflower/safflower oil). Good luck and let us know if you find anything else. I'm curious! ~C.~

I don't know about someone who makes them, but the brand Cherrybrook Farms (Target and I'm sure health food stores) has gluten free cakes, cookies, etc. I used this for my daughters 1st birthday (because it's also egg free, which is what we needed) and it tasted the same as anything else we've had. Maybe if you even found a cake decorater, you could ask them to use this specific mix for the actual cake. Oh, I also (because we hadn't tasted it before) baked seperate cupcakes using a regular mix for the rest of the partygoers -- just in case. But after we tasted our daughters, it tasted just fine and I could have just done that one for everyone.

There is a place in Hurst called Hot Chocolates. They do gluten free cakes. I have never tasted them but they might give you a free tasting. http://www.hotchocolates.net/index.html
