Hi,
My baby girl is 4 and 1/2 months old and I was thinking of starting her on alittle bit of water. What type of water can I give her? is boiling tap water ok? or what about water that Similac sells? They have water that has glucose in it and also sell sterilized water. Im also thinking of starting her on cereal.. mixing it in her formula. Should that be a reason to start her on alittle water? thanks.

What can I do next?

Hi C.,

Sure it is okay to give your bg a little water. You can do it one of three ways. You can boil it, buy it, or get a filtration system. Either way, it is always okay to give water. Especially if you are trying to keep the baby on a feeding cycle. ex:every 3 hours. If she crys for a bottle in between feedings, it's good to give water.

well water is okay but not really something you have to give her but if you are you can buy those 99cents gallon of water instead of beech nut or any other expensive water its all the same to me just make sure its distiled or sterilied water that should do.
and yes she is ready for spoon feeding of cereal start with barley its the ligthest one and easy to digest.

good luck and happy feeding

At this age there should be no problem giving water. I did with my daughter around that age. If you give formula some doctors may say it is not necessary because there already is water mixed in with formula. I think it should be ok.

i think it is okay for alittle water now. water is very good for the body. not to much considering she is so little but some is fine. i agree with the other responses as far as starting w/baby water although it may get expensive after a while. you could also boil bigger amounts of water then refridgerate so it last a while, sort of like when you make the bottles in advance.

I started giving my son water (boiled) at one month and began mixing juice with water at 3 months.
I am going to begin spoon feeding him rice cereal in the next few weeks.
He weighs over 13 lbs so there is no rush.

Congrats on the baby! Yeah boiling the water is fine. However, when you give her rice cereal mix it with formula in a bowl and feed her from a spoon. It is not a good idea for her to drink the cereal. At this age it is good to start her on learning how to feed from a spoon. I did that with my son starting at 3 months. I began by giving him the smallest amount (as indicated on the box) in the morning. Then we gradually increased it to the morning and before bedtime 2 weeks later and by the time he was 4 months old her was eating cereal twice a day and a half a jar of fruit in the afternoon. Give her water between feedings....however don't continue it if she ceases to take her formula. I had a problem with my son because he would drink the water then refuse the formula. U can also try some juice...mix 2 ounces of gerber apple and half od boiled water. They LOVE this!

I hope this helps.
