San Diego is fabulous. So much to do and great weather year round. I love to wander through Balboa Park, the gaslamp quarter, eat and shop at Horton Plaza, and finish the evening at Extraordinary Desserts.
Trying to plan a girls trip for our 40th. We are from Chicago and want to go somewhere we haven't been but not too far - thinking San Diego and looking at the Hard Rock there. Any feedback?

San Diego is awesome, beautiful beaches, really great shopping and terrific restaurants and nightlife. Happy Birthday, have fun!!!
The San Diego Zoo is fabulous!!
Awesome suggestion! I can't think of any specific places to go but I can say, man I'm jealous! Go and have a great time with your friends - every hard working mama should do something like this from time to time!
.
How about a cruise out of Florida...a lot of bang for your buck and usually awesome weather or heading down to Key West?
I've been on several girls trips. These are some of the ones I truly enjoyed. (actually, enjoyed them all- a break is a break!!!)
Mayan Ranch in Banderas, TX- we stayed in cabins went horseback riding, sat by the pool, went in to town and hit the bar. We did a breakfast ride, that took us into the hills. The guide cooked breakfast, basically, on a rock. Soooo yummy.
Loveland, CO- again, stayed in cabins, horseback riding. We also went quad-running in Estes Park. It is beautiful!! The hotel where "The Shining" was filmed is there.
There were other trips - Vegas, Key West. I love, love, love the beach. You have Lake Michigan, so maybe a beach setting isn't a big deal (yes, I know Lake Michigan is different than the ocean :) We loved the outdoors and being around the horses and took in shopping, as well. Have fun wherever you go!!!! Yay girls trip!!!
Sigh, I LOVE the San Diego area! Just so beautiful and warm and sunny and the people are so relaxed and content. Sigh, did I already say that.
After the brutal winter you had (and us too in upstate NY), it sounds like just the thing, AAHHHHH......
I love all the mission hills, the views are incredible, too many things to do there to mention.
Have a wonderful time! (Tryin' not to be bitter and resentful looking out the window of my house with a foot or more of snow in the front yard and more coming this week )
