How much would you pay to have your 4-12 year olds in a manners class? OR...would you even take them to a class like this??The classes would be 1.5 hours for the younger and 2 hours for the older ones. Thanks for the input.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for the input. It is always good to see the public's side of things. Well, we will be adding 2 classes in October, for each age group. They will be interactive and be taught by a certified teacher who will also be on a TV show in November. I think she will charge around $40 for the classes. The 4-7 age group will have puppet involved with the learning as well as activities and items to take home. The older children will have something similar w/o the puppet. I hope it goes over! Thanks all!

As long as its not too much. $20-$25.00 a kid. I have 3 girls and 1 boy and would love all of them to get in on this. Let me know if it gets off the ground, or if you need help!

I noticed you owned a tea party shop...so I'm assuming you are asking to inquire about starting a class to offer clients. I just wanted to say to not exclude boys. It would expand your market and provide an opportunity to show them to hold the doors open and simple table manners. Not sure how much to charge. I saw a manners class in Dallas that charges $85/student for 2 hours. In Grapevine, you could probably get that, especially considering your surrounding cities of Colleyville, Southlake. For the average SAHM mom as myself, I could and would only pay half as that since I would view this an extra entertainment that I would only consider if it was affordable for our budget.

Hi H.,

I wouldn't charge more than $15... and even that seems a bit much. Also, 1.5 hours for the 4-6 range seems like a long time to have a class. I think it would depend on how you plan to incorporate the manners in the class. Would they be actively participating or would they simply be watching and learning?

Good luck!

I agree with the 15-20 range. I would love to have my daughter go to something like this. Although 4-6 age group might be a little tough for them to really get it. 7 and up would be great.

A lot would depend on exactly what was offered and if it was something my daughter WANTED to do or if it was something I was making her do. But, I'd probably be willing to pay $30 for something that would guide her in table manners, how to refuse something politely, and teach her the proper way to try foods she's not sure she'll like without being rude.

I don't have daughter, but as a mom and teacher, I think 1.5 hours for young girls around the age of 4 is about an hour too long. Just my opinion.

I think its a great idea - not sure cost wise- my mom was a waitress so the manners were really enforced in us early- Im a sticklerfor manners, etc.- lol
I think having the tea party and not knowing it's a class would be great. My sister did a manner class for her kids and the trick is making it stick by applying it at home. I would emphasis that-
Sounds like fun and its definitely a southern thing-
Would love to chat one on one with you- I have a host assistant service-and have a bunch of networking groups that you would benefit from-
Everyone is always looking for great party ideas and that is one of them!

H.,

I was writing to say the same. Don't exclude boys. I have a son that will be four soon and would love to see him learn manners. I'm working on it, but sometimes it's nice to have the village help raise the child, too. We're a single income family, so $85 is expensive for us to do for the class. Maybe for older kids you could do it, but the little ones... I probably wouldn't spend more than $25 for a session for a 4 year old. You can only cover so much with that age range. I might think about pricing the classes (within reason) by the amount of information you were able to cover in the class. Though the other poster is right, in your area there are more people who could afford more in your areas. You'd just lose the Lewisville crowd with that price.

I would say $40-$50 a session dependind on how often the classes are. If they are weekly or bi-weekly then maybe a little less. If it's a one time deal unless the may need more classes then higher would be fine. To me 1.5hrs seems too long for the younger ones though, I think an hour tops would be more appropriate for their age.

I grew up in Grapevine and graduated from CHHS :)
