Ok gals, I need your best and most fun advice. My best friend and I have known each other since second grade. We have been through everything together. We are now 35 (bite my tounge) and want to get away from it all. I'm a mom with an at home business, and she's a corporate executive. I need your best ideas for a 3-5 day vacation somewhere in the US or relatively close to a 5-6 hour flight max. My husband is going to climb Mt. Ranier, so I need something to rival his trip! I am so excited, but can't even foucs on where to start looking! Let me know what you think!

Humm. . . if it's just the 2 of you, it might be kind of hard and pricey. I go on a girls trip every other year, but we've got a bunch of us. So we've chartered a catamaran and sailed the British Virgin Islands (all of them), spent a week in Playa del Carmen, Mexico and the most recent was we rented a beach front house for a week in Belize.

What about a trip to the wine country? Or I've heard traveling the NE coast in the fall to see the fall colors is amazing. A weekend/week at the Canyon Ranch Spa? The Greenbrier is an old resort in West Virginia. It is very "old south" etiquette but very nice. There is a spa, horseback riding, AMAZING meals, etc.

HAVE FUN!!

Key Biscayne in Florida! We loved it! Many things to do and just a taxi ride away from Miami if you want night life, fantastic shopping, or great food.

I've done a girls trip to Puerto Rico/Vieques Island and that was really fun and pretty close. On Vieques we did a great kayak and snorkel tour, we swam in the bioluminescent bay and just enjoyed the beach and night life. St. Thomas is also fairly close and is as beautiful as it gets. Have fun!

Depending on what you both like to do here are a couple suggestions:
1) an Alaskan Cruise. I heard they are majestic.
2) the Keys, less refined, more bohemian, and footloose (i.e.wild & crazy party time)
3) Grand Cayman. A little bit of party, a lot of great shopping, as well as some touristy places, like sending a postcard from Hell or the turtle farm
4)the wine stuff in Napa or Sonoma
5) Taos, or Santa Fe, New Mex

my trip of a lifetime would be New Zealand, Australia, or Fiji/Tahiti. a scuba buddy and an all inclusive foodie resort would do it for me, I haven't been diving in 12 yrs, and blog my food pics, so I'd be happy as a clam there, so pick a place that is the epitome of your interests and there ya go! Epic!

Florida has some GREAT places. Of course you can cruise from Miami or Tampa or Port Canaveral to the Bahamas & Carribbean or Mexico from there or if you just want to relax, hit the Keys or Marco Island or Sarasota area.

Definitely give the spa idea some serious consideration. Pampering is always good for the soul. If you would like to go for something more metropolitan, maybe consider a few days away in San Francisco. You can take a day to do a Napa Valley wine tasting tour and also book tickets for the opera or some kind of theater production. And they have great spas there too so you can get your massage and facial fix there as well.

Have fun!

I second the Playa Del Carmen trip. We went there a couple of years ago. Pick an all inclusive adult only place. It is only about a 3 hour flight. It is beautiful with a lot of shopping and food in the area.

Not hard, lady. Go on a cruise! Get your passport ready and do it. One of the best values for your dollar around AND no kitchen that YOU can get into! My friend coerced me into going w/ her on a quick 3 day trip from Cape Canavaral to the Bahamas. I was hooked! Took my family of 6 the next year for 5 days. Everyone had a blast. You will too. Enjoy!

How about Napa Valley?I always thought that would be a fun girl's trip. Or, if you are a foodie, you could go to San Francisco. They have amazing restaurants. You could do the whole spa thing at any of these places.

My college friends and I have done a 'girl's trip' for our 30, 35, 40 year young celebrations. Zion NP in Utah, Sedona, and Sanibel Island...it's a tradition you'll certainly keep up!

Do the two of you share an art interest? I did a 7 day photography workshop in Santa Fe and they took us to a film studio to shoot, and the Sangria Mountains a private area and a Working Ranch Bed and Breakfast. I had a blast because the entire trip was heart felt. With the kiddo, I don't get to dedicate my time to shooting like I would love to and I was there with other people with shared interests. I plan to go next year with one of my shooting friends. We just went to a 6 hour one together and spent the entire night talking about the workshop. It was so much nicer to go with someone who shared the interest, as my husband did go to the Santa Fe trip for a few days and he wanted to do his own thing and really just wanted me to shut the photography biz off. I even had a hard time getting him to go to the end of class dinner where they displayed all of our work. He really wanted to be doing his own thing...and then I got to show him how amazing I am!!!

You don't have to show his trip up, just have more fun!

I took a long weekend to Phoenix w/ a friend last year. We stayed at the posh Firesky Resort (http://www.fireskyresort.com/index.html), took a spa day at the amazing Hawaiian Experience Spa and ate and shopped in Old Town. My only regret - wish we would have stayed longer! Really, this doesn't rival Mt. Ranier but it did make for a great 4 days. My friend and I also strongly considered doing some sort of spa/shopping/site seeing trip to Sedona but we just didn't have enough time to take that kind of trip.
