Stick to Willow...If you like it then don't go back to the drawing board. Whether it was a family member or not...down the road you'd find someone else using the name..Don't have regrets!
Hello,
I'm in need of some name help. My husband and I finally agreed upon a girl's name, Willow, after a very long hunt. (We like more unique names, yet still girly.) However, this weekend I found out that a relative of mine just named their baby girl Willow. So, it's back to the drawing board with selecting a girl's name.
We are going to be surprised, so we may not need a girl's name. However, I like to be prepared. If we have a boy instead, we will be naming him Harrison. I need some help coming up with a different name like Willow that blends well with Harrison. I know there are some creative moms out there, so please send me your advice!
Thanks!

If you like WIllow, you don't have to sacrifice it just because someone else named their kid Willow. It's not like their kid is the only Willow ever born.
My sister gave her daughter the same middle name as my daughter - big fat hairy deal. It just means that we both have great taste in names.
If you want a really different name, go with Jennifer ;) LOL, I joke. Seriously though, it seems like all of the "different" names are becoming the new Jennifer.
I love the name Rose.
What does it matter if a relative just named their daughter that? My daughter and her cousin share the same name and everyone could care less. When they are all together we call our daughter by her nickname. If you love the name use it!
Maybe Meadow instead? (although that was the daughter's name on The Sopranos.) Or Fern?
A friend of mine named her little girl Whilhelmina and they call her Willa. Pretty, unique and a cute "short version"!
So what if you have another Willow in the family?
There's no reason to discard a name you love just because anyone else used it.
George Foreman named every one of his kids George, girls and boys alike.
There are no rules regarding using a name over and over again.
Still, if you want to look for a different name,

Harper is cute and different.
I do not think there is anything wrong with having a few Willow's in a family.
There are a ton of James And Leonard's, Joeseph's, and Ann's, in our families.
Our next door neighbors just had the most beautiful baby girl and named her Posey! She is adorable and the name suits her perfectly.
I also love the name Lily.
Each girl I have known named Lily was beautiful, smart and kind.
Rowan goes both ways - girl or boy - nice suggestion.
What about Holly? It's got the H from Harrison and the two els from Willow.
A famous old name is Willa
How about Linnaea, Aven (a flower), Adelie, Stella, Sydney, Juniper, Aspen, Sage?
I love Meadow. Someone on here once suggested Clover which sounds cute too.
I love the names you have picked out! I would not worry about having two Willows in the family. That's a sweet name.
I wanted to add, my neighbor's daughter is named Ocean.
Unless your (potential) daughter will be seeing this relative every day, I would still name her Willow! Really, if they're only going to see each other at holidays (if even then) then what's the harm? Especially if they would have different last names. I've never understood the whole "she 'stole' my name" thing and I would have no problem explaining that great minds think alike and that was the name you and your husband had chosen. Within a month everyone will get used to it and you'll have the name you want!
Sydney?
Meg (Margaret)?
Beth? (Elizabeth)
Rowan? I believe it's also a tree, but I think it's very pretty :) Congrats!

II saw a movie once and the child actresses name was Noleigh. (pronounced Nolee) I liked it but hubby didn't.
My personal favorite is Winifred. Her nick name could be either Wini or Fred. The name means "peace friend."
The website babynames.com is great for perusing names. You can also do an advanced search and view the most popular names for the past few years or see which ones are on the rise.
Autumn. Or Summer. Both nice.
Good luck.
You don't say when you are due so this is just a guess. When my son was born, he's 33, the hospital had a bulletin board with the newborn pictures and their names. One of the baby girls was named Summer Joy, I thought it was beautiful. And really showed how happy the parents were to have her.
babynamewizard.com You can type in a name and it will give you all sorts of different information, including a list a real-life sibling's names. That might give you some ideas, as the parents liked one name you have picked, so you might like the other names as well.
Some names I like...
Sloane
Delaney (Laney)
Maeve
Skye
Lyra
I did the baby name explorer on babycenter.com they gave:
Violet
Paige
Stella
Jocelyn
Abigail
Regan
Sage
Aspen
or Kennedy( my bff just named her little girl this and it is super cute, or so I think)
Best of luck.
I think Harrison would be super cool for a girl too!
WilloRain (Willow is super popular right now so you might be happy NOT naming your daughter Willow. But like the name Lorraine.. you could invent the new form Willoraine. Then you could call her Wil, Willo, or Raine for the nick. But, sticking to more natural resource (flower names), here are some of the ones I think are pretty cute:
Blossom
Petal
Bloom
Ivy
Lily
Daisy
Rose
Ember
Sage
Violet
Iris
Marigold
Violet
Heather
Rosemary
After reading your post three names came to mind Ivy, Meadow & Skyla. There is no reason that you need to change your original selection just because another family member used it. In these situations you have to go with what you feel is best and if you both decided on Willow then there is no reason to change your mind. My daughter is Laci, the name came to me as soon as the technician told me she was a girl. It is possible that when you see your baby you will know "their" name. By the way my daughter is 7yrs old and for the first time a few weeks ago she met another little girl with the same name, but spelled differently.
Good Luck (and who cares if your family has two Willow's)
heck, why not stick with willow? families are okay with having multiple mark, michael, mary and martas, why not a couple of willows?

I knew a girl in school named Linden.
There's also (sticking with the 'plant theme') Jasmine, Violet, Aspen, Olive, Heather, Briar, Iris and Ivy.
Rowan, also a tree.
It can be a boys or girls name. My son's name is Rowyn.
S.
How about Lilli, or Lilliana, Emma, Emmaline, Evelynn or Evie ( we were going to name my littlest one this, till he came out a boy, ;-)
I wouldnt keep Willow... I think Lilly is beautiful and realize you are L. i think its so cute
How about Lauralei? I'm not sure if that's the correct spelling, but it's pronounced Laura-lie & it's a flower. I also adore the name Harley for a girl as well as Chloe.
I am with the other Mama's however regarding if you agreed upon Willow & you both adore the name, then there's nothing wrong with keeping it.
I liked unsual names also but found that even if it is unusal when you choose it, soon it hits the most popular list. When I named my daughter Cassie, it was not a very common name at all. Now it is around everywhere. Another name I liked and concidered was Rana Michael for a girl. One name I love a lot is my granddaughter's name, Emmalyne L.. Emmalyne is pronounced Emma-line not Emma- lynne. Since she has been born there is at least two babies that I know of that was named after her but they went with the lynne ending. Sometimes it works to take a semi common name and spell it different to make it unique. My oldest son is Jarrod instead of Jared and my youngest son has the most common name of my three kids which is Jordan. He also was the most unique child..lol
Whatever you name the baby will be perfect. Congrats and bless you all.
Chiming in with what some other posters already said, I think Harrison for a girl would be a charming and interesting name.
I also liked the suggestions of Meadow and Clover.
Picking out the perfect name is SO difficult...here are a couple of my favorites that I didn't use when I had to find my daughter's name:
Ainsley
Piper
Pru
Sloan
Delaney
Quinn (my daughter's middle name)
Sydney
Tawny
Shawna
Lelani
Here are a few unique names of girls I know.
Ivy
Laramie
Alandra
Joelle
I like Willow, how often do you see the family member?
Cadance,Trista,Tiegan,Kylieanna,Ella,Phobe,Tessie.Could go with an older name like Charlotte and call her Charlie,Ester, things like that.Look at your family history and see if there was any names you like down the line. That's how I got my Son's name,I love it and no one has ever heard of it.You can also you last names.I think last names of family make it really neat,My Mom and I both really thought her maiden name would make a cute boy name but the Dad's didn't agree to it!
My 2 year old daughters name is Brielle Elizabeth,,, And our daughter who will be here in July will be name Azaelia Mae~ Figured Id add my daughters names since they were not on here!!
I agree with most other people. Keep Willow. You made the decision before and I don't believe, in most cases, in changing your child's future name just because someone else picked it.
But just because I love baby names, here are some girl botanical names that I like: Linnaea or Linnea (my daughter's name), Iris (if we have another girl we will name her Iris), Cassiope, Rose, Rosa, Zia (actually Zea but I like Zia better), Khaya, Poa, Zinnia. A friend's daughter is Raine. And, if you like nerdiness, the Latin name for Willow is Salix, which I think is kind of cool, and then she would still be Willow, in a way.
Oooh, and I love Rowan and Ivy, too.
I agree with Willa. I have a friend named Willa and I think it's so pretty.
This site can help you come up with new options: http://www.nymbler.com/
Type in Willow and then either block, mark as favorites or don't mark the name choices you're given. Click on "more names" and repeat until you get some options you like.
I think Willow is a lovely, unique name, and regardless if it is in use for a relative, unless its a sibling of you or your DH's child... I would keep it. I have a cousin named J., but Ive never met her, and it isnt weird at all.
I would keep Willow if you like it. There are at least 6 Kris & Michael cousins in my family. We named our daughter Holly Ann. It's a long story why she is Holly but one of the baby name books said that the ancient Christians used the Holly branch to signify strength and being able to overcome adversity and thrive in the face of darkness. Her middle name is the same as my middle name "Deborah Ann", my mother in law is "Barbara Ann", and my husband's great Aunt whom he is really close to is named "Anne". I like the Meadow & Lilly also....maybe you could combine them, name her "Lilly Meadow" and since you are L., just call her Meadow. Congratulations and enjoy your new precious bundle of love!
Why can't there be 2 Willows in the same family? You want it, so keep it.
There are many families with generations of the same names. More common with boy names, but it happens with girls' names, too.
I really like the name Willow...It's actually one I've considered if we were to get pregnant again. I love how everyone has suggested Ivy for a name because that's my daughter's middle name. All 3 of mine have "uncommon" middles names like myself: Dawn (me), Kaitlin, Ivy, and Kurtis(my son's).
A few names I like are:
Cambria
Violet
Evelyn
Olivia
Ires/Iris
Margot (Maggie)
Charlotte
Brynn
How distant is the relative? If it's someone you only see every couple of years or never then keep Willow.
Other nature & unusual suggestions:
Aceline
Adaline
Aila
Amabel
Anneliese (anna-leese or ana-leeza)
Carina
Daisy (also is a nickname for Margaret)
Emmalise
Estella/Estrella
Hazel/Hazelle
Holly
Liliane
Laurel
Madelaine (nn's Lainey or Maddie)
Marina
Parisa
Pearl/Pearla/Perlina
Rhiannon
Rosabel
Roselle
Rosemary
Ruby
Vivien
Zinnia
I like the name Cheyenne. Yes like the name of a city in Wyoming. I believe it is an uncommon name, so she may be the only one with that name in her class.
Bummer, but you can still use it. Although I too would change it as I did Emily when my sister named my niece Emma.
Rowan--love this

Lyra--love this too

First let me say that I disagree with you that you feel you need to search for a different name. Your relative does not "own" the name Willow, and you still have every right to name your baby Willow! No one has "name rights" so to speak! I am curious how your relative ended up with Willow, since it is not a very common name? What a coincidence!! (or did you tell her you are going to name your baby Willow?)
Anyway, with that said - another name that is nice and sounds very similar to Willow is Harlow. I never heard of the name Harlow (for a girl) until Nicole Richey named her baby girl Harlow. I think Harlow is cute! Another unique girl name is Rainn. Brooke Burke named one of her daughers Rainn. But definately use Willow if you still want to!
