I ALWAYS get a Diaper cake for baby showers!
They have all of the neccesties and are incredibaly adorbale.
This is where I get mine:
Okay. One of my really good friends is having a baby shower coming up. I viewed her registries and she didn't really register for alot. I have an 11 mo old and have forgotten (already) the necessities of a newborn. I know that diapers and gift cards are always good but I planned on spending a little more on her. My question is to newborn mothers: What are some things that you absolutely cannot go your day without?
I ended up getting her a few things off her registry but I also got her a humidifier. She loved it and said she would have never thought of it.

I LOVE my diaper warmer! But if you want an AWESOME baby shower gift idea I have JUST the one for you! 2 moms on here who are sisters make them and they kick butt! I did one for friends of mine and even the DAD got all excited about it! :) Go to www.bumblebeebabyboutique.com. They can customize it any way you want and with any theme! Great baby shower centerpiece too! :)
You can always opt for a Personalized Music CD where the childs name is sung several times through out each song.
"My Very Own Music" is a very popular choice for infants. It provides a great opportunity to expose the baby to music and exercise while singing and playing with them.

My friend has this fir her baby right now but I dont know the brand...its bottles that on the botton holds the formula so you dont have to take the whole can with you. She said they are sold in a set with a few diff sizes and containers and a brush for cleaning. I think its Advent brand. I also like the basket idea with baby Motrin, Gas drops, Lotions/baby wash, Thermometer, bath towles & wash rags, bibs and burp rags. Adding a gift card in there never hurts so they can get what they didnt get. A swing is always a good idea or a bouncy chair (some people forget about these but it was a life saver for us. If she dosent have a good camera that would be good or buy a bunch of disp. ones. Also if she has a vcr camera tapes would be good so she can tape all the great moments. Also photo albums and a scrapbook or baby book would be nice. Well hope that helps a bit!
Did she register for a diaper pail? I have the Diaper Champ and it really keeps odors out.
She also may not have registed for an Exersaucer, since that's a few months out. Those can get pretty pricy! Babies R Us has a good selection.
My neighbor has the Treehouse highchair - it's adorable. I wish I had one!
Burdickbaby.com I love the Miracle Blanket and Wubbanub pacifiers- they are the Soothie pacifiers from the hospital sewed onto a beenie baby- that rest on the babies chest- so you don't have to continue to pick it up after they drop it a million times- works great during sleep also, wrapped in w/the Miracle Blanket!
Okay, a few suggestions...
1.) Try getting clothes for an older baby - not just newborn. I got so many clothes for my newborn daughter, that she never even got to wear most of them, but when she got a little older I had to go on a shopping spree. Depending on what time of year she's going to have the baby, try to get some clothes for the next season. I know that Target and Wal-Mart are having some really great clearances.
2.) I got a little bear that makes the same sounds that my daughter heard in the womb. WONDERFUL! Even though it didn't help her sleep, it helped keep her calm.
3.) At www.mammasmilk.com, they sell these baby slings that are great, and they have a ton of different patterns available.
I didn't register for a baby swing and wished I would have. We got a cradle swing after our son was born and couldn't have lived without it.
Practical items like the gift baskets suggested by other moms are always helpful. Another idea is to make a diaper wreath or cake and include Infant Tylenol, Mylicon drops, and other necessities. When your newborn is screaming from colic at 2 in the morning Mylicon drops can come in really handy!! :)
Or you can also buy her a gift certificate for a stork rental or newborn photos.
When I had my first little one, one of my friends gave me a plastic bin of "practical" items. Now that is what I do for all of my baby gifts.
Some of the items were:
Thermometer - the one that you swipe over their head.
Pruell keyring (you can get this at the checkout at Target)
Baby Praise video (any Christian bookstore)
The plastic bin was then used to hold all of my baby medications so I always know where everything is and what I have.
Good luck and I hope that helps.
Hi There H.
The 2 BEST baby items that I feel are a MUST for new parents are a baby swing and a video baby monitor.
She loved this swing and it really helped many times to get her to fall asleep....which meant mommy got some sleep. BIG PLUS!!!!!!

Our friends gave us their Video Baby Monitor....this is SOOOOOO wonderful. It helps with those "is the baby ok," moments that we all have in the middle of the night.

I have a cute little baby store in Keller. My favorite thing for showers is a thing called The Baby Bunch. It is a bunch of flowers, but the flowers are really baby cloths, they are simple and I tell the ladies to have the new mother come back and monogram one of the shirts for free. I love it. They are beautiful. Give me a call if you are interested. ###-###-#### Good luck. and have a happy shower. P. :)
We offer some wonderful gift baskets for mothers to be at The Nesting Place in Grapevine. We even have a wonderful basket for a mother who is looking to breastfeed OR you could build your own with products we have in the store. We offer a number of classes that are wonderful for new moms or even for moms and baby. Good Luck and have a great time at the baby shower.
PS I cant live with out my bumbo baby chair!
I think gift cards are the best. That is a great way of picking up things you don't get at your shower or what I did was used it to buy formula after the baby was born. If she isn't needing any of her big baby stuff I would do a gift card for the amount you were looking to spend. I also think as a close friend another good idea is to not forget mom. You might put her together a basket of goodies for her (ie. things she could use at the hospital, slippers, bath stuff, things that will help her to rest and relax in those few minutes she is able to steal after the baby gets here).
My sister got a great gift, and one that I would never have thought of!! Her SIL bought her a sitting fee and CD of pictures for some newborn pictures. It was such a great idea I thought. They used a photographer that comes to your location, takes tons of pictures, and then makes a CD, with photoshop and other fun details, included in the price. Then, my sister can print what ever pictures she wants. It was more expensive I am sure than the traditional gift, but very unique and thoughtful. Good luck ~A.~
Hi! I'm the one that makes diaper cakes! I see a couple of people on here already referred me! I started making them a few years ago for friend's babyshowers, they started to become "expected!" The host of the baby shower would call me and ask if I was bringing a diaper cake because they wanted to use it as the centerpiece! I think they are fabulous because they are full of all the necessities the mom needs, diapers, baby hat, baby mittens, bibs, baby shoes, brush, comb, nail clippers, thermometer, soaps and lotions, etc. And I love custom making them to however you want it to match the theme of the baby shower. I can also make a mother's corsage to match the diaper cake. Since I live in the area I can always deliver it so you won't have to pay any shipping.

My SIL is having a baby shower this weekend and I put together a basket for her. With towels, wash clothes, Butt paste, Tooth brush, Blanket, Socks, Onsies, sheet saver, Customer printed label on wipie bin, and a few other odds and ends. I also customized letters spelling her daughters name, and hand painted a rocking chair with baby's name and a little design also.
Is this her first baby?
What about a starter scrapbook and a gift card for a local scrapbooking store for mom? She will always need a place to put pictures.
