I am looking for gift ideas for a 13 year old girls birthday. The family does homeschooling and lives a very simple/economical lifestyle. This is her first birthday party ever for family and would like to make her feel special this day. Any ideas would be great!

What can I do next?

It depends what types of things she enjoys. A few thoughts..
a nice piece of jewelry
books or a gift card to a book store
music - a cd, if she has an ipod an itunes gift card, a gift card to a music store
maybe a little pricy, but tickets to a event, play, or a museum

Ditto the books!!! As HS'ers ourselves as well, I've yet to meet a HS kid who doesn't have a list of books they're waiting/saving to buy or check out.

Another cool idea might be a photo album, especially if you might be able to start it (with some pics of the girl and you, her fam, etc.) Not knowing what kind of HS they do... a lot of HS'ers are on the cusp of going to college at 13 (as in, most of the HS'ers I know start their college courses at 14/15, so 13/14 is a lot like being a highschool senior for many HS'ers). Not for all, of course, but for many.

How about a good game or a magazine subscription?

I'd get her a gift card for classes at your local hobby store. Places like Michaels, JoAnn Fabrics, Hobby Lobby. Or a gift card so she can buy her own crafty stuff.

The first thing that comes to mind for me is beauty supplies...what about something from Bath and Body works. I also like those necklaces and bracelets that have inspirational charms on them. I have seen them at Target, Kohls and JC Penny. I don't know what kind of girl she is but I don't think you can go wrong with a necklace. Maybe a necklace with a monogram for her first name. These are just some initial ideas.

We're homeschoolers too and I've noticed in our support groups and play groups that most homeschooled girls (I only have boys, so this is only outside observation) are more into crafting than public school girls are. Especially those that live very economically (veggie gardening, second hand clothes, home made winter hats, etc...). Maybe she would like a gift card for a craft store like Jo-Ann Fabrics or something like that...? Also, homeschoolers are usually less concerned with "feeling" special than with doing special things for others, so crafting might be something she could get in to even if she's not already.

Also, maybe a gift card to Borders, or Amazon.com or something. One thing homeschoolers go through a lot of is books!

Thirteen. Hmm. Haven't gotten past eleven yet. Perhaps a Jewelry box? I know Pottery Barn Kids sells one you can have their name put on, and I am sure Lillian Vernon does, too, for much cheaper. A simple necklace with her initial? A charm bracelet she can add to each year?

Some other ideas: A journal -- the smencils (the colored pencils that smell - my daughter LOVES those!) A scrapbooking kit. Photo Albums. A Kaboodle (you know those cases that hold all your little girly things. I had one when I was a kid and they still make them!) Limited Too and Justice sell throw Pillows with initials that kids love. My daughter has one on her bed in the shape of letter E.

Oh, how I wish my child was so simple. Or maybe I wishI was more economical. Hope some of those ideas helped!
