I need some gift ideas for my daughter's various teachers - she has a piano teacher, and there are about 6 Sunday School teachers at our church. We are not big on "stuff" and I was thinking gift cards. But what kind, and in what denomination? I would welcome other ideas as well.

$10 cards to various restaurants- coffee houses, Panera Bread, etc... When I taught, those were my favorite things.

I was a teacher for 17 years and I loved it when I was given gift cards. There are only so many mugs, teacher jewelry, key chains, bath stuff and candles one person can have especially with 20+ students. Some of the best gift cards I have gotten were to: Barnes and Noble, Target, the movie theater, a nice restaurant, Walmart, etc. Those gift cards came in handy when I went out with friends. It allowed me to save some money, especially after purchasing gifts for family and friends, the class, etc on a single teacher's salary.
I usually do $20 for his main teacher to Target and then a little gift - never anything for mailmen or garbage men (am I bad?) and then we have swim coach (usually give treats and maybe a small gift card but she is elderly 87 and not sure what sort of things she really enjoys) and the daycare lady gets a gift card the restaurant down the street from her house.
Gift Cards are great! I would just recommend getting them a gift card for a place and a denomination that they can use--for example $10 at Starbucks would buy 2-3 drinks. The same $10 at Macy's may not get them much.
I went to the Christmas Tree shop....don't know if you have something similiar out there. I bought these little bread thingys.....cook I'm not......and some spreaders. I am going to have the kids make banana bread in them and put a spreader in there for butter. It cost me $1.75 minus the cake mix which is nothing. Then I am throwing in a restaurant.com gift card for $25 which cost me $2.40.
If you go to www.coliryan.com then click on stores on the right hand side, click R. Go to restaurant.com. By going through this process you will be brought to an exclusive page of restaurant.com with a coupon code for a huge discount and you will also earn 20% cash back. I got 20 $25 gift cards for $48. That's $500 worth of dining out.
:)
Hope that helps you frugal moms.
I would say $5-10 giftcard for someplace like Caribou or Starbucks. Even if they don't like coffee, they offer hot chocolate, tea, smoothies and baked goods. Or a giftcard to a nearby book store. I usually just do a $10 giftcard and nice handwritten card.
What about iTunes gift cards or gift cards to book stores?
I've done gift cards to the local gas station/convenience store (QuikTrip) that has a great soda selection, packed in an insulated cup or mug. That seems to be a big hit!
Bath and Body offers great items, ;like hand soaps 6 for $20 and habd sanitizer 5 for $5. If you google a coupon code, you can almost always print off a spend $30 and get 10 $ off. They also have socks that are so comfy! Lifeway has some great gifts for the Sunday School teachers
I don't recommend restaurant.com. I bought one from them and they then told me I could no use it and I needed to pick from another restaurant. they had 2 others and they were hole in the wall type of places. So they basically got my money because they do not give refunds.
I'm giving ours an assortment of homemade baked goods, packed in little chinese take-out looking containers, with a $5 Starbucks Gift card attached. Same for everybody, so I can just make up several and pass them out as we run into them. Makes things so much simpler than choosing a gift for each one.
Everyone is getting a $10 Barnes and Noble Gift Card from us. It's the only bookstore in town, but I chose it because it also has the cafe. I figure if you're not into books (but most teachers are), you can get a coffee. The garbage guys and the mail lady are getting them, too.
