Hello,
My husband and I own and operate a medical office. One of our staff members is getting married and we would like to get her a gift. It will be her second marriage and she and her fiance both have grown children. Not sure what is appropriate gift wise. She has only worked at our office since October of this year. Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

They probably don't "need" anything to set up house so I would just get something that would be nice such as a piece of crystal or a great dinner somewhere.

I collect Waterford crystal and you can get some nice pieces at reasonable rices such as a small frame, vase, etc.

A gift certificate to any eating establishment or movie theater.

What about a bottle of wine? Gift certificate to dinner/movies, or even something personalized with their new initials. I do embroidery, so personalization always comes to mind. You can get an inexpensive set of nice towels at Target and then have their initials embroidered on them. If you would like me to help with this, my web address is www.institches.biz.

Did they register anywhere, that would be another idea.

Cash (any amount you feel comfortable with), inside a thoughtful card, to spend on their honeymoon or whatever else they choose. Although not creative, I’m sure a monetary gift will be well received.

When my mother in law married for the third time it was difficult to think of a gift, between them they had everything, including several houses and cars! We bought them a faux mink throw in the end, and it was their favorite gift! It's a nice couples gift, very gender neutral, and useful too. Merry Christmas!

Maybe picture frames - you can buy a nice silver one at macy's and spend a little money there. Attach the gift receipt so they can return it. My husband and I appreciated the gift cards alot. It seems so flat to give gift cards but they do give alot of options.
Another thing - any kind of nice entertaining type dishware is nice.... a blended couple might not want to use the stuff that belonged in a different marriage.
If you ask the woman if she is registered anywhere - surprisingly LOT of people have wish lists - she might volunteer what they might need. GL

When my husband and I got married, it was the second marriage for both of us and we each had a houseful of furniture and more than enough of everything else. We really didn't need or want gifts.

However, we absolutely loved the gifts that we were given that were personal to THIS marriage: a hurricane lamp with our names and wedding date engraved in the glass, free videotaping and editing by a friend (who's not a professional, but he did a great job), a beautiful frame for our wedding picture, a special cross for the wall with a beautiful message written on the back, a small statue of two parents with three children (we have three between us), and guest towels with our last name's initial.

We also received a large romantic basket full of wines, fancy crackers, candles, and chocolates. It was wonderful to feel the support of friends and family with symbols of our merged lives, and I still smile inside when I see each of these.

My two most favorite wedding gifts were our wedding blanket that has our names and date embroidered on it and our wedding invitation framed nicely with a dried flower arrangement in it.

I don't know where to get the invitation done other than creating it yourself, but I am an embroiderer and could do a blanket - send me a private message and I'll give you our website.

I know a couple who also just remarried for the second time and they have pretty much everything so some of the guests gave them restaurant gift cards.

What about a personalized bottle of wine & glasses...with their picture, names & date of wedding?
I can send you a picture of the one I did for my cousin if you are interested...to get an idea of what it would look like.

In my opinion, people getting married for the second time are often not in need of basic necessities, which if they are, then get them something that they registered for or cash/GC are helpful. If they have the basic needs then you might consider giving a donation in their name to a charity.

just a thought!
