Hi All,

I feel really silly asking this, but I need help in figuring out what would be a good gift for my soon to be 4 y/o girl. I have struck out just about every year on what I think she will like. I would love some help here. She is very creative and I was thinking about an easel for her art work, but she would have to share that with her brother. I have thought about dress-up stuff...she sometimes likes to do that. But every year when I get something I am sure she will like, we are both disappointed. I would really love to hear from y'all about what you have found to be great! I am sorry this is so long, but I really want to get her something special that she will not be disappointed in getting!

Thank you so much!
A.

Here are some things I make. I'm working on less expensive more friendly puppets right now for the Christmas season.

When I was around that age, I loved to do anything crafty. I know hobby and craft stores have fun little kits for girls. Maybe something like that?

Presli just had her 4th bday this past weekend and her favs were her My Little Pony stuff. The Pinkie Pie balloon house, this Surf Shop for big ponies. I didn't know what to get her either, so we took a trip to the Toys R Us and looked around. I just watched what she showed interest in and then told our families. She also really likes all the Island Princess Barbie stuff and the movie is pretty cute too. Oh, and Build-a-Bear... I don't think you can go wrong there. She can create a special friend. Good luck! I hope you find the perfect gift.

My 4 year old got the Loving Family dollhouse and has really enjoyed that. She really likes horses too, so anything with a horse on it is fun around here. Also, she has loved floor puzzles and so we have several of those that she works on often. Hmmm... oh, she does enjoy games as well, and a family favorite has been the Disney Scene It game. Believe it or not, another thing that she plays with often is lincoln logs. My mom got them and I was not so sure, but she loves them, as well as a basic set of building blocks she got for her birthday. She never plays with all of the barbie, polly pockets, or other "trendy" toys, she seems to be happier with the basics that I think seem too young for her at first. Have her look through the new toy ads coming out for Christmas and see what sparks her interest. You might be surprised at what she likes the most. Good luck with this one! ~A.~

My daughter turns 4 in two days!

We're getting her a bike, it's all she's been asking for and her brother is tired of sharing his.

She also has asked for Aquadots (Target has them), Polly Pocket Primpin Polly, and the Barbie horses with interchangeable heads (I know, sounds twisted but one has a brown mane and one has a blonde mane).

Hi, i have a five y/o girl, and last year for her fourth birthday we got her a dress up box full of dresses and crowns, all kinds of little princess stuff and she loved it. She likes to play dress up alot, and she still plays with it all the time. I also got her a art easel for Christmas, she also has to share but still plays and draws all the time. Both where great gifts for her and neither cost very much, so i was ablke to buy her things she needed. I hope this helps a little. Good luck.

Hi A.. I have a 4 year old girl and if your's is anything like mine, she is obsessed with Disney Princesses and Tinker Bell. I just love taking her to the Disney store and seeing her eyes light up! I'd recommend taking her there. There's one at Hulen Mall and The Parks Mall. I really dont see how you could go wrong. :)

Some of my daughter's favorite gifts that she got when she turned 4 last August were: groovy girls, dress-up clothes, my little ponies, strawberry shortcake and Breyer horses. For Christmas, her favorites were a Leap Frog leapster, a pretend vet set, puzzles and a mosaic art set where instead of coloring by number, they put different color stickers by number ( learning express sells them). HTH!

My daughter is turning 7 but several of our friends have younger kids so 4 is a big age right now for us. We've been giving things that last all year - magazine subscriptions, lessons (skating, dance, etc), movie tickets, basically a variety of things that will last more than a few days.....

Good luck with it!

Have you thought of taking her to Target, Wal-Mart, Toys R Us, etc. to look around and let her choose some items for you to consider? A "Show Mommy What You Might Like to Have as a Surprise" trip-- no promises, just looking for ideas. We have an easel from Melissa & Doug that has two sides-- my girls can both do art together that way. My daughter will be 4 in two weeks and LOVES to dress up-- plays dress up every single day. SHe also really enjoys building with blocks, kitchen toys like dishes & foods, stickers, paints, all sorts of art supplies. Good luck!

Have her sit in your lap and look at the Toys R Us or Amazon website and tell you what she likes.

My 4 yr old is all about pretend play. The Loving Family Dollhouse, Polly Pockets and animal figurines get a lot of action in our house. Little make-up sets and purses are fun too, along with dress-up stuff.

The play kitchen and dishes/cookware, etc. are also out almost every day (and have been for about a year!). We might expand the collection with a pretend coffee maker. Target has a neat wooden pretend kitchen center that's not terribly expensive. Also, if she likes to bake, you can get her an apron (I saw a set at Target with oven mit and chef's hat, or get a blank one at Michael's and personalize it with fabric paint), then add some cute cookie cutters or other kitchenware (Pampered Chef has neat, colorful cookie cutters and measuring cups)

If she really likes art, I just found a neat stamping and art set at Walmart. My daughter played with a friend's stamp set one time and was enthralled. The set comes with a bunch of different stamps, different colored ink pads, stickers, paper, etc.

My daughter would also love to be turned loose with stacks of blank paper and a set of watercolors. The easel is really great for this, and it's two-sided so her brother enjoys it too. THere's a little tray on each side and they have their own set of watercolors, each a cup of crayons/markers, and there's still room for a small container of water for the paints. You can get cute art smocks to go with it as well.

Also, what about outdoor fun? I think one poster mentioned a bike. There are also pop-up tunnels and tents available. One friend even has a neat little indoor tent/play hut that all the kids enjoy playing in.

And one last thing, this is what we'll do for my daughter for her 5th birthday (not til May), but we're letting her re-do her room. New coat of paint in the color of her choosing, new comforter, curtain, and maybe some fun accessories like lights or switchplate cover, etc.

My twin 4 yr old girls enjoy an easel that we bought at USA Baby; most hobby places carry them. It has 2 sides, so each child can work at it at the same time. Also, my girls enjoyed receiving the following at their birthday:
a disney umbrella - they had a lot of fun pretending to be in and out of the rain; small trinkets, little girl jewelry and purses; a disney princess dress-up package (dress, tiara and shoes), and games (Cranium, CandyLand). I think your situation is probably similar to most kids; the things I put the most time and effort into are not the ones they get excited about. I think having a lot of little things might be more fun than one or two big things. My girls got so many presents that we piled them up and let them open one or two each day for a while; they really enjoyed that, too. Also they enjoyed a pair of Disney princess shoes from Skeecher - the shoes have little lights that flicker when they walk, and a picture of three Disney princesses on them. Good luck, and remember, concentrate on just letting her have fun being a girl - maybe don't put so much emphasis on the one or two gifts.

How about taking her out and letting her pick something herself. Or taking her to get a pedicure or lunch and a movie?

A.,
I haven't seen this suggested so far, but my grand daughter, who will turn 4 in Nov, loves our camera.
She's always wanting to take pictures. She'll even grab my cell phone & beg to take just a picture or 2, & then she doesn't want to stop. So I'm planning on getting her one of those kids cameras I've seen advertising, I think it's a Fisher Price camera. In the commercial it shows the little boy dropping it, so it looks kid proof. My husband said there is a kid camera that can be hooked up to the computer for her to view her pictures there. I'm about to search the internet right now & try to find it. Good Luck with finding that special gift.

Hi A.~

My little guy turned 4yr and what we just did/completed together as a gift was a samll (7x7) scrapbook with a simple kit. I spent about $40 total (book, kit, page protectors), but both of us LOVE the outcome.

We had 1-on-1 time to work on it; he did everything with mom's supervision... cut, tape, pick out stickers. He didn't do all the writing, but did do some drawings (hearts, apples) and simple words - I love seeing the errors. I would write details of photos that he dictated so it was still his thoughts and words. My son loves this book - always asking to work on his scrapbook... even tonight, he interrupted his coach to tell him "my scrapbook is all done" and carries it everywhere to show others.

I'd be happy to help you - I got my stuff with Creative ____@____.com/daniellemohr . Especially, with you having a little girl - this could be a hit. I love it that my son will have this book with his work forever... and next year when we make another we can see how he has grown. Let me know if you need/want to send pix and I'll send some.

Good luck!!!
