hey moms just wanted to see what suggestions you all would have for a 1st bday presents. it will be for an ex co workers daughter and i havent seen here in a long while and i dont really know her child. we are attending the party due to the fact we were invited and her children are close in age to mine but i have not got a clue what i should get and the only exception is that she doesn't want any stuffed animals so any ideas would be great. thanks again for all the wonderful advise.

What can I do next?

One of my son's favorite gifts on his 1st birthday was the Playskool Busy Ball Popper! A couple of my co-workers also gave clothes which we also appreciated. And books are always great!

Books!!! :)

EDIT: Just adding this to say that I am the aunt/friend/random gift giver who always gives books - very few parents are going to object to having books given as a gift. And as a parent myself, I am always happy to get new books to read to my daughter and I don't need any more plastic toys with multiple small pieces cluttering up my house. I also like wooden toys that would be appropriate for a child that age - wooden puzzles with big knobs on the pieces, and blocks. And my daughter loved her Busy Ball Popper too.

The best gif that my daughter got at that age (besides books), was the playskool busy ball popper! She's 3 now and still loves that thing! Wooden peg puzzles are great too! Very simple chunky ones at that age.

Anything that can be PUSHED- not pulled. They are learning to walk and want to do everything by themselves. The vtech walker is really neat. but so is a simple shopping cart or baby carriage.

Another vote for the Busy Ball Popper! Uncle Doug gave my twin girls one for their first birthday. They still love it and they are almost 2 1/2!

blocks, a first baby doll, big block puzzles, baby einstein video....
walk down the aisle of the toy store or Walmart for that age....clothing are great too. Anything monogrammed is cute for a girl.
