So What Happened?

Thank you to everyone for their suggestions...they were so helpful! We ended up buying him the "phlat" ball, a Cars book, and another activity book! It was cheap to mail and we got a note from his mom as soon as he rec'd it that he loved it! You mom's always pull through!

Hi,
I have a 6 year old boy and the big craze around here is Bakugan. They cannot keep them on the shelves. When they are in stock, you can find them at Walgreens, Wal-mart and maybe Target. The "starter pack" is around $13.00 ( it comes with 3 bakugans). I just found a 6 pack today at Wal-mart for 19.97. Hope this helps, good luck!

We just bought my 51/2 year old son a computer game that he loves. It is "Tonka...on the job" I found it at Farm and Fleet in Woodstock. It was only 7.99. My son plays it without needing much help. Good Luck

Somebody mentioned Toys R Us used to do where you pick out and pay for it here and then the family could pick it up at a Toys R Us near them. I hadn't known about that with Toys R Us...but Walmart started doing that at Christmastime....so if you can find something to pick out at Walmart that's an easy "free shipping" option. Can order it online and it becomes ready for pickup at the selected store near them. Did it with my sister in North Carolina at Christmas and it worked out well. :) Best wishes....

Bokegon toys are really popular too. They are small and pretty light so they wouldn't be too hard to mail.

since you are not sure what the boy really likes, why don't you get a gift card from Walmart, Target or Toys r Us to mail in a birthday card and let him pick out something. Put a message in the card to write back and tell you what he got. Then he is learning to write a thank-you also. This way he also has mom/dad's guidance on what they allow.

My son turns six next week....when I asked him what he wants...he said, "I want more Tonka's!" Little boys love trucks or anything to do with them. How about a book on trucks and truck Pajamas, and maybe a small truck to play with. Super hero pajamas are always a hit too (especially with a cape)

My godson just turned six and he wanted a "flat ball". They are in the ball aisle at toys r us. they are flat and when you throw it they pop up. He opened it at his party and all the kids played with it all afternoon. It was about $13. It's foam so it will be cheap to send too. Although the shipping at toys ru us that the PP mentioned sounds great.

My son is 6 and he loves Legos and so do many of his friends. Either a boxed set that has instructions or a container of loose Legos would be a great gift. Star Wars is also very popular right now.

I always like to go with children’s magazines Ranger Rick and Cricket are two ideas to look into. Number 1) you don't have to go out and purchase and then mail. Number 2) it is a gift that keeps on giving. They get new magazines for a whole year! Spread the joy of reading!

I don't know your budget, but I do want to mention that Toys R Us used to have a set up where you pick out and pay for the gift here and they can get it at the Toys R Us in their town. If you are trying to be safe kids always love art tools and paper and such...

I don't think you can go wrong with Legos. Pretty much every child likes them and there are so many different options price wise. I think you would be safe with that.

Legos. I would put some paper in the box or bin to stop the noise of the pieces moving around but all little boys--and girls-love Legos. And since they are pretty light weight, it won't cost a ton for shipping.

Hi!
There is a great toy store in Naperville called Learning Express--they have really amazing, unique and often educational toys for kids. If you can't make it to Naperville, check out their website (www.learningexpress.com) because you can search for toys by age. They actually have a "gift finder" function in their search engine where you can search by gender, age, etc--it's pretty cool.

I just bought my son the board game (it is actually a kind of car/travel game) Rush Hour for his 6th birthday from Learning Express.
Good luck,
K.

Have you thought about asking the boys mom what he likes . I know my 5 yr old is into action figure's and matchbox cars. Also there are nice learning toys for reading for this age . Try leapfrogs tag system , its a reading book with a pens that makes reading alot more fun for my sons (2) 5 and 3 .
