when my son was in public school we did a handprint apron, with their names under their handprints. only cost a few dollars and was easy to do, just fabric paints and pen. She loved it!
I am the room Mom this year for my 1st graders class. The teacher is retiring this year and I am trying to come up with a nice gift to give her from the class. I would LOVE some suggestions. School is out in just over 6 weeks so it can't be too elaborate or cost too much money. Thanks for your help!

How about assorted plants in pots for her yard?
Each student could make "Garden Markers" with their names and drawn picture of themselves..
Give each child a page to decorate, including a photo of themselves, along with nice words about their teacher, fun things they enjoyed in class, etc. Then, put each page in a scrapbook or binder for her.
Some cute ideas I've seen - each child puts a handprint onto a large flower pot, an adult adds their names, and add a nice ornamental plant to it.
Ask any of the mom's if they quilt. You could get each child to draw on some material and those can be made into a lap size quilt very quickly for little cost.
