My niece turns 3 in two weeks and I would love any/all suggestions of toys or other great gift ideas (ie. piano lessons). She is an extremely busy child with a 2 month old sister.

Give her music lessons! This is something she may enjoy for a lifetime. 3-4 years old is the best time to start children on a string instrument or piano. I am a professional violinist, and I have alot of experience teaching children. The kids who start young have a much easier time. They are little sponges at this age, and nothing is hard for them. I would recommend the Suzuki method for string instruments. Something that involves both private and group lessons at this age works the best. Private lessons for individual attention to correct techique and group to motivate the child and to have fun.

My granddaughter is 3 years old and loves playing with play dough. She spent an hour doing this at my house last week. She loves to draw pictures on colored paper using washable crayons too. An activity she enjoys with an adult is going through the books that have "hidden" objects in them and the child has to find these objects. I hope this helps. K.

A subscription to Ladybug magazine is a great gift for a 3 year old. No ads, age-appropriate interesting stories and regular features, and mail in their name every month. It's exciting every time. My children's aunt introduced us to it (as well as "babybug" and "click" magazines) and we have been subscribing ever since.

puzzles of around 8-24 pieces would be good, and color books with 8 to 16
colors in a box. Help her unleash her imagination. Maybe a blank pad of paper. Good luck!
