T.,
No worries! My daughter had this done when she was 13 months old & it was a PIECE OF CAKE! She was groggy (& frankly, TICKED OFF) when she woke up from the anesthesia, but once that completely wore off, she was fine! If I recall correctly (she's 3.5 now), the doctor gave us some drops that we had to put in her ears every so often for the following days. That was no big deal as well. After the surgery, she had SIGNIFICANTLY fewer colds & illnesses! Very much worth it :)
Good luck!!!

A family member's son had these procedures done at a similar age. It was obvious within a week how much better he was. Before the procedures he was always havings ear infections and had a constant stuffy/runny nose, all of which affected his appetite (couldn't taste his food, so he wasn't interested in eating). After the procedure his nose was a clear as can be and he started eating everything! And the number of ear infections significantly dropped. And if I remember correctly his speech development was more on track (the doctor indicated the constant ear infections was having some impact on his hearing which in turn had some impact on his speech development).

Sure, the hospital part isn't all that fun (my daughter had tonsils/adenoids removed when she was 7 so I experienced this first-hand). The waking up from the anesthesia is the worst and your child will be groggy and probably grouchy the rest of the day, but nothing that a little extra lovin' from mommy won't cure!

Hello, when I was younger I had several sets of tubes and had my adnoids and tonsils out. it can make all the difference to their health, but i do not know how my mom handled it. I cant imagine my son, who is 3, going through this. Just beleive that the drs know what is best and no dr WANTS to do surgery on a kiddo that little, so it must be necessary for him to make that decision. kids tend to heal quickly too, they bounce back from stuff easier than we do. Good luck

My daughter had this done about a year ago. It is amazing how much she doesn't get as sick as often now. The hardest part is waking up from the anesthesia. She woke up confused and probably in a little bit of pain. We were in recovery for about 30 minutes, had a popsicle and went home. She slept alot, but once she woke up she was back to her usual self. She has had 3 surgeries and the same reaction every time. The best thing for them is sleep and some tlc from mommy. Good luck!

My son had this done at 6 months old! He had ear infections ever 2 weeks from birth, and was allergic to antibiotics. My mother discouraged me from doing it, but now he's 18 months and has only 1 ear infection since, which was not bad at all since the tubes allow the infection to drain out. It was a life saver. He was up and playing the same day of surgery and didn't skip a beat.
