Getting the Hubby Snipped ??

Does anyone know if it is healthier to for men to get snipped? I ask because it is free to do with my insurance but not sure if we should do it. I have already been fixed and was looking for double protection (rough labor!) so my husband said he would have a procedure done too. Just curious if anyone has thoughts about this.

What can I do next?

This is the coolest thing EVER. I don't know about "double protection" though. I'd just say that it's enough to have him get done, because it does not increase the chances of cancer for a man like it does a woman having a tubal ligation.

The peace of mind is INCREDIBLE.

Healthier? No answer there. Super safe? Yes. Reversible? Sorta. If he's saying he'd do it then do it.. especially if it's free! I've heard nothing but great things, plus you're sure you're not going to want to have any more kids so it just makes sense. And to those who say it's unnecessary my mom was a tubal baby (she's 19 years younger than her youngest sibling.. talk about surprise). Better safe than sorry :).

My hubby got snipped when our daughter was about 2. The only complications he had was thinking he knew more then the Dr. and not following the advice to lay around for the day with ice packs.

He swelled up like crazy and ever since, if a Dr. tells him to take it easy, he does, LOL.

Other than that, it was a non-issue. Just take samples to the lab for testing for about 6 months.

I'm like you... I was adamant to not have another child. I was once and done. I continued birth control until I had to have a hysterectomy about 10 yrs ago. That was the best thing I did and I have not felt better, freer and higher sex drive because I know I can not have an oopsie.

DO IT DO IT DO IT!! I know this isn't a consideration for you and wasn't for me at the time either. My husband had a vasectomy and then we ended up divorced. Now he's remarried to a woman 10 years younger than me, she doesn't have kids and wants them but he CAN'T have them...Thank God!!! He can't take care of the 2 he has with me so now they have decided having our kids every other weekend and paying child support (when he's working) is "enough" for them...lol!!! I know that wasn't your question but thought I'd share my story. Good luck!

my husband got the Vjob & it was a riot.....the nurses/staff were in/out of the room nonstop! I told him every man deserves to experience this in exchange for what we go thru with hospital deliveries. He was not amused that the nurses were talking about their wkend plans! He also was not amused that the dr never, ever asked if he was "sure"....the dr took one look at my husband's white hair (before age 40) & said, "you're old enough. When do you want to do it?" OMG....2 funny! My DH's best friends all got the lecture.....my DH felt cheated! OH, & he did follow all of the instructions & still blew up HUGE.....was a.o.k. several days later.

But I truly believe there is no need if you've already addressed the issue!

I don't know about healthier.... but it's a very simple procedure. My husband paid his $15 copay, had a 30 minute experience, and drove himself home. We went to a cook out that evening. He had slight soreness, but was 100% by 24 hours later.

I don't know that it is healthier, but it is in no way harmful. My SO got snipped, and he was back to work 2 days later. He was in and out of the doctors in 20 minutes. It is a very simple procedure.

No answer to your question, but recommending a clinic. Vasectomy Clinic of Chicago (branches in the burbs) is AWESOME!! No needles and no scalpel. No ice bags either.

My husband got snipped and it is ay easy for men. In and out recovered in a week and the procedure is like half an hour. They dont have complications that us women can incounter so in that sense its healthier.

Healthier for a guy to get snipped than a girl? Yes. My understanding is it's way easier and less issues. Of course, there are risks with anything, but I can definitely see why you want double protection!

My hubby just had his consultation on Friday to go and get snipped. I'm 36 weeks prego and this is our last. We've chosen for him to get snipped instead of me. He will have it done not this coming Fri but the next one. It sounds pretty quick and the healing is pretty fast too. I say go for it if you want more protection!
