Getting Rid of Baby Things via Consignment or Other Ways

I am ready to get rid of baby items like clothing, toys, swing, bouncy seat, etc., and have looked into Children's Orchard seeing that they pay cash directly for these items which would be nice. However, they cannot set up an appointment with me until the last week of August and I would like to get rid of these items sooner than that. Does anyone have any suggestions for other stores like that or even consignment stores that are easy to work with? Again I would like to get rid of these sooner than later and also make some money from them as soon as I can. Thank you.

Do you have the store "Once Upon A Child" near you? They buy used stuff. Also, try craigs list or a yard sale. If you are not worried about making money off them try freecycle.org. Or just see who around you need the items. Put an ad in the paper.

Craigslist.org is awesome for such things! Great place to get rid of things and find new things! :-)

A. - You didn't indicate where you live or how far you would be willing to travel, but Kid to Kid in Aurora (on Mississippi Ave) is really great to work with. They buy clothing seasonally (through this month they are buying summer things, next month they start buying fall/winter things). They buy toys and such year round. We've taken a lot of things for all kid ages and also purchased a lot of great clothes as well. They pay cash or you can take store credit and receive 20% more. They do appointments or drop offs. Check out their website: www.kidtokidaurora.com

It depends on where you live.

I am in Boise, ID. We have Other Mother, Kid to Kid and a new one just south of the dollar store on Vista Ave, I believe it has the best prices.

I am sure there are others too.

The Just Between Friends sale is awesome! Go to http://jbfsale.com/?fuseaction=home.subsites#Colorado to see which one is closest to you. The JBF website gives very detailed instructions as to how to price & tag your items, and you'll get more money for your items than you would by selling at a garage sale. Also, you can earn 5% more money for your items if you volunteer at the sale and for me the best part is just getting to meet and visit with other moms! Good luck.

I'm not sure about stores, but my idea is, have a garage sale. Thats how I got 99.9% my daughter's stuff, since I was 17 back then and had very little money, and her father back then didnt make very much either, so I went to garage sales. Got stuff I could use, at a price I could pay.

I don't know if there is a "ONCE UPON A CHILD" store in your area, but they are a great place to take your used baby things. You don't have to make an appointment, and you also have the option to trade your stuff in for other things if you so desire. Hope there is one close for ya!

I echo looking into a JBTF (Just between friends) if there is one in your area. I finally did that this past April and I loved it! I was able to sell all our old baby furniture and some maternity clothes...the rest of the clothing I let go to the charity they donate to at the end but you have a choice if you want it back if it doesn't sell. they sell it at half price the last day if you mark it to sell that way. if not it stays at your full price. I think you get 70% of the money. so something to think about on it. I did that since I didn't want to expend the energy of having a garage sell myself it was worth giving up some of the money to have it in a place where it's all moms and families looking to shop specifically for the kid stuff. and no strangers coming to my home like a garage sell or listing online can do. I also wanted cash not a store credit like Kid to Kid but if you have other kid stuff you need that is always a good option (or another version of that store) if you are part of a MOPS group or other mom group you can probably get them to send out an email saying these are items available at these costs. our mom's group does this all the time and it's great. sometimes there is free stuff and other times there are prices on them.
good luck!

I sell all of my used stuff on www.craigslist.org Since I live on a military installation, I go outside the gate to have people meet me so they don't have to do the gate security but I've never had any problems with people coming to get my stuff. I sold a cherry wood convertable crib for $100 through them & a few other things for less. My problem is usually trying to figure out which person to sell it to. I've never done consignment shops. On the website you've got the option to join or not-I never have & have posted & sold things just fine. And you can do it from your home in your jammies-bonus!

Hi A.,
I'm not sure where you are located?? If your stuff is in excellent shape, you can try Once Upon a Child. They are a franchise and locations across the country... including a couple in the Denver metro area. Craigslist is good option too if you are looking to make a little bit of money on the items. Freecycle is an option if you want to give the stuff away just to get it out of the house. Good luck!

Hi A.,
If you are up for a drive you can take them to second hand kids in Thornton. No appt. necessary. Just call them to make sure of what they are taking Shea & Toniya are the owners. Also Tumbleweeds is awesome, Mindy & Brent are great. I live east of DIA & travel to both. Tumbleweeds may be by appt. only they are in Parker. Both give cash & store credit.

Have you tried posting any of the things on craigslist or ebay? We've bought and sold a lot on craigslist (a bit of an addiction, lol) and it seems like you get more for what you're selling as well. Ebay might be good for clothes, I know some people that get tons of gymboree from ebay. Bigger items might not be as good due to cost of shipping though. GL!

I love craigslist. You get 100% of what you charge and the people come right to your house to pick it up. I sell everything on there and have had much luck. Good luck!

Hi A.,
I would try a Just Between Friends sale in your area. You can go to www.jbfsale.com and find a sale in your area. You make a higher percentage than a garage sale or the consignment stores and if you consign, you get to shop early before the public. They are awesome! Good luck!

I was also going to suggest craigslist, ebay or yard sale. I tried the consignment shop things once and was very disappointed at how little they were willing to give me for my things. They obviously have to make money so they can't pay you what they will sell if for, you might get half of their asking price if you're lucky, so selling it on your own at the same price (or even less) than what they would sell it for makes you a lot more $!

I love Kid to Kid in Aurora too. Also, you get more money for in store credit to buy the things you need as your baby gets older.

I would have a yard sale. Baby stuff sells like hotcakes! :) And it's a chance to get rid of other stuff you don't want/need.
