Getting Pregnant Too Soon After Miscarriage & D & E

Hello!
I lost a baby 2 weeks ago. I had a D & E...similar to a D & C. My OB said I had to wait 2 full cycles to get pg again. I am wondering if I am more at risk to lose another baby or what. And what would happen if I got pg before that time frame. I am NOT planning on getting pg again anyway. Just thought I'd ask...out of curiosity.
I know that my body needs to heal, etc. Just wondering if anybody got pg before they were "supposed" to & what the outcome was.
Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I hada miscarriage at about 8 weeks and had a D&C. My doc advised to wait 3 months to allow me to heal first. I agreed and although we weren't really trying to get pregnant, I was pregnant within a month and all was well, a healthy baby boy, who is now 16!

I have heard of quite a few people who got pregnant the cycle or 2 after a miscarriage/D&C and they had no problems carrying the baby to term. Becuase your hormone levels (progesterone) may still be somewhat elevated, there is a thought that you might even be more fertile for the first 3-6 months after a miscarriage or pregnancy.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss and I wish you the best in the future.

First, I am sorry for your loss. I have not experienced getting pregnant so quickly after loosing a baby but I have lost a baby. I think your OB suggests this timeline for a few reasons. first, you have to heal, as you know. Second, If you are not healed that little fertilized egg is not going to have a safe place to stick itself.....not that it couldn't happen but chances of going full term with it are slim. Third, emotionally you need ot heal too. No matter how deeply you are feeling your loss (a little or a lot, neither is the right amount....how you feel is the right amount) your mind and heart have to heal too. I truly believe there is a mind/body connection and for a new egg to flourish it needs a safe, emotionally ready place to live. I am a Doula (Labor Asst. ) and I have many friends that study pre-natal phsyc. and I have heard of many stories of women whom, after looosing multiple babies, that once they had emotionally "cleaned house" so to speak...or let go of the old and focused on the new and the potential of the new...they were able to get pregnant and have it go full term. I know this is not exactly the question you had, but I just thought it would be something to think about. Good luck and good healing.

I am so sorry for your loss. I'm not sure of the particulars if you got pregnant before you're completely healed, but after my miscarriage and subsequent D&C, it took me 6 months.

Yes, give yourself a chance to heal.

Good luck.

HI H.,

So sorry for your loss. I had an early miscarriage, and got pregnant just after my first normal cycle, after the OK to try again from my OB. The fertility doc I had started seeing said he would have told me to wait another cycle before trying again. I had a lot of spotting during my second pregnancy, which was really scary (that's how I knew the first one was not going well), but I ended up with a healthy, full-term baby. The fertility doc said that had I waited longer, my uterine lining would have healed better, and I would have had less risk of losing the subsequent pregnancy.

I would encourage you to go with your Dr.'s advice and wait. You'll have a fertility boost for something like 3-6 cycles after a loss, so be patient!

Best of luck to you
C.

Hi H. I'm so sorry for your loss I know how hard it is when this happens. For me I had a miscarriage very early on. I didn't have to have a D&C and i got mixed answers on how long to wait before trying again. first the Physicians Assistant saw me and told me to wait at least one cycle before trying again. Then the doctor told me that I would probably be fine to just start trying again right away although I may not get pregnant that soon. Yeah I got pregnant 2 weeks after that! I am now 13 weeks and the baby is totally fine. Although I did just have an ultrasound last week and they did say there is still some blood from the miscarriage left over so i may still bleed again in the near future but it won't effect my baby and everything is good. So I don't know....you can wait but for me everything turned out just fine.

I had a miscarriage, passed everything on my own without a D & C and got pregnant after 1 cycle. No problems with the pregnancy and she's as healthy as ever!

I would wait the full time period and possibly more before getting pg again. My niece took that risk and lost her baby at 6 months. Also I know a few others that have lost two and three babies in a row because they did not wait like the doctor told them. And yes if you wait the full period you can have a healthy, happy baby. I know four pregnant women right now and three that have just had healthy babies in the past month that had all had lost a baby in the past. Follow your doctors orders and you should be fine. When you do get pg follow doctors orders and don't do anything you shouldn't. Drinking and smoking can cause you to lose your baby or have it be born with deffects. I would avoid any smoke at all. I am not saying you are a drinker or smoker. I am just making you aware of the dangers. Also, exercise while pregnant, walk, walk, walk and then walk some more. It will keep you healthy and the baby healthy. Also if you walk on a regular basis you will have a easier delivery.
