So What Happened?

Thank you i gave him the yogurt and he is eatting it. Thanks so much. I just got a little worried being that my son eats any and everything you offer him! But i know its nothing to be worried about! He is drinking alot of fluids so the hydrated area is ok. Again thanks alot for all those who gave me suggestions.

just give him liquids -he'll eat when he's feeling better. Applesauce was/is a favorite of my son when he's sick but other than that he really can't be bothered. My pedia said thats fine - think about how you are when you are sick, do you eat a lot? Toast is good too. Liquids are key!

If he's very sick, he may not have an appetite. The most important thing is for the little guy to stay well hyrated, so my suggestion is to give him plenty of water and pedialyte. I hope he is feeling much better soon

You don't have to give him anything. Kids with fevers do not want to eat and they don't have to. As long as he is staying hydrated that's all that's important right now. I know instinctively we want to shove food down our kids throats, :) but I would just lay off it for now. Think of how you feel when you're sick. He feels the same way. Make sure he stays hydrated. At least a teaspoon (5cc's every 5-10 min) should do it if he's also refusing fluids too.

My childrens' pediatrician informed me not to force them to eat if they did if their body was not ready.. Lots of Gatorade, the body needs energy to digest food, only feed the child when he is ready.

As long as he will drink and stays hydrated, you do not need to worry that he has no appitite when he is sick. Offer what you think will work, and worry about finding things he will drink. Most viruses will not last so long that you need to worry about not eating.

It's definitely hard when kids have a fever to get them to eat! I feel for you. I wouldn't push him too much, but a few things I have found that work, Chicken broth. I will make a couple cups and put it in a sippy cup so my son can drink that instead of juice. It gives a little protein and hydration. Toast, see if you can put something on it. My son likes nutella and he feels like he is getting something really special, and I have checked out the label, it has sugar but other than that is no worse than peanut butter. A little goes a long way.
My son loves pasta and I think would eat it regardless of how he feels. Maybe try to stick to his favorites!
Good Luck!

Juice based pop-sickles will also help keep him interested in food... plus, they might help cool him off from inside his tummy.

Dear E., While your son is sick he only needs to drink to avoid dehydration. When he starts feeling better his appetite will return. You can still offer food but if he refuses it is OK. There are liquids in the drugstore that will provide nutrients. Hope he is better soon:-) Grandma Mary

A person can go for awhile without eating. If he doesn't feel like it don't force him. Keeping up his fluids are a must. What ever he usually likes to drink should be fine. Warm chicken broth is very comforting. Maybe yogurt, pudding or jello would help, too.

As long as he is drinking don't panic about not eating. We go through ALOT of ice pops when my 3 yo is sick. I also throw out the rule you eat what I make. Whatever they want is what they get. I figure some calories is better than no calories. Also it is usually just a day or two that they don't want to eat so feed then junk food if they want! My mom always gave us whatever we wanted when sick (and at 2 yo he is still too young to fake it!!!). Just keep him drinking. Ginger ale with the bubbles stired out is a stapple around here too. Also water of if he eats fruit like watermelon, cantelope and honey do. Hope he feels better soon. A.
