A suggestion on saving money on a shower is to have an "afternoon tea" - that way you don't have to spend a lot of money on food. Just have a dessert table (you can even have close friends and/or family chip in and help you make desserts) along with coffee and tea. If you have the shower at around 2 in the afternoon, everyone will eat their full meal at home. And then just keep it simple and elegant.

Same goes with the wedding. If you're looking to keep costs down, you can have the reception later on a Friday evening. Have a small ceremony maybe around 7pm or 8pm and then just serve appetizers and beer & wine after the ceremony instead of a full dinner...

Both options can still be very chic and elegant without spending TONS of money.

I just got married July 2007. We had an outdoor ceremony at Blossom Heath in SCS at 10 Mile and Jefferson. If You know anyone who lives in SCS it wont cost anything. You will have to get someone to perform the ceremony. We had our reception at Barrister House, I think we were charged 17.00 per plate nd that included the bar. If you have your shower there, I believe you would get a discount. Let me know if you need anything else!

I have looked at a few responses and there are some good ideas. I also have a great centerpiece idea for you - I could probably make up about 8 or more of them for a very minimal charge. It is cracked glass wine goblets (which I have) in three different heights. I used them and placed colored water in them - similiar to the color of the bridesmaid dresses. Also if interested my wedding dress is sitting in a closet at my Dad's I of course could come up with a more than fair price if interested and appropriate size. Talk to as many people as you can about donations and you do not necessarily have to buy favors for everyone. The halls are willing to work with you - Barrister Gardens is where I had mine, it was amazing - 2 years ago on the 7th of the month. Don't let them talk you into anything you do not want, keep it simple. Buffet style is not my favorite but it is so much more reasonable. I have a wonderful photographer. Resal shops, Gibralter, Coupons etc that is the way to go. If interested in talking further I live in the SCS area and would be more than happy to meet up with you. Good luck. Let me know if interested.

Hi! A suggestion for a bridal shower or reception hall location would be Farina's banquet hall, located on Coolidge, just south of 12 mile road. I had my baby shower there last year. The staff were SO nice and accomodating, the food was great and the hall was really nice. Their # is ###-###-####.
Hope that helps, and congratulations!!!

Try Farina's in Berkly. I just had a baby shower there and they are reasonable. I had a casual rehearsal dinner at Shields Pizza very affordable and there are coupons.

The Pleasant Ridge Recreation Center (Woodward and 10 mile)is central, affordable and a nice place for showers or any event. Its $225 for 4 hours for the big room and attached kitchen. I had my baby shower there and its pretty nice. You do have to set up the tables and chairs and do your own clean up. You can bring your own food, or have it catered. A nice option for keeping costs down. I also had my parents 40th wedding anniversary there and it turned out really nice.

We did our rehearsal dinner at Como's( 9 and Woodward) in their party room which is above the restaurant. It was very close to our church so it worked out well. Not sure how many people you need to accommodate but we really enjoyed it and just did their pizza and salad buffet--and drinks of course.

not sure if these ideas help... good luck. I remember how much stress there can be in wedding planning!

EDIT---You know what...i thought you lived in Huntington Woods, I just saw that it is actually Harper Woods. My suggestions aren't nearly as helpful knowing that info. Sorry about that!

M.,

I have no idea about the area but I wanted to offer you something to decorate your tables if you want. I had a natural outdoor theme at mine. I have around 30 mason jars filled with sand and a candle tied with raffia (sp). I saw in a bride magazine of a couple that got married in Alaska. Simple yet it looked beautiful at night.

They are yours if you want theme!

I would check out the Cutting Board for a shower. They are located at 12 and schoenherr. You can visit their website at: www.thecuttingboard.us
They are wonderful there. The service is great, the food is great and the deserts are amazing. They also do weddings if you are having a smaller one.
