I am interested in getting my daughter's ears pierced. She is 3 year old (will be 4 in March) & her doctor had said it would be ok when she turned 3 but I have put it off because I'm not sure if she will try to take them out like Mommy does ever night. My question is does anyone have any recommendations on a good place to go? Her doctor's office does not pierce ears.

What can I do next?

Hi T.

Well I am knnda in the same boat, but I am not at the same time. I have an 8 year old daughter who has a best friend who has pierced ears. She has been asing me why didnt I pierce her ears when she was a baby like her friend's mom did to her? I told her that I wanted that to be her decision. I am a pro choice person. Something like that I belive that she should choose when or if she wants that done. I remember at 7 years old I went to go watch someone go pierce their ears and I didnt want to have it done, at that time! Later on when I was 17 I had it done, I probably would have done it sooner but it wasnt a big deal for me to have it done, though I love earrings. My advice is let her grow a little bit more to where she can understand better what it involves and let her decide. Even though my daughter wants pierced ears I am going to let her tell me when she is ready. But if I do I am probably going to take her to Clairs boutique so she can pick out a pair of earrings when she is all better and being a brave girl!
This is probably not exactly what you want to hear but I felt impressed to say something.
I hope all goes well and I hope you are yours have great holidays!

What's the hurry? Why not wait until she is older and actually asks for earrings and can take care of them herself? Believe me, once she gets in school that will be sooner than you think, probably by 7 or 8.
Many places like Claire's Boutique in malls have ear piercing that is hygenic and inexpensive.
Good luck!

I had my daughter's ears pierced at the mall. She was 4 and she is now 19. However, because of the young age, she never did touch her ears for years, and it allowed for them to be okay until the age when she did change them out. She has never had any problems.

However, we did go to the icing to get her cartlidge pierced and they are very by the book ...very clean about the whole process.

Also know that these shops now do the ears with another employee at the same time, that way you get the pain over really fast. Otherwise, if you did one and it hurt, she won't want the other one done. I think its a great method.

My oldest daughter was a little older when we got her ears pierced (I believe maybe around 9) and she had a lot of problems with her ears getting infected because she couldn't keep her hands off of them and kept thinking she had to push the backs in really hard. Not to gross you out, but she ended up getting the back embedded in her ear and the skin growing around the back ...it was very painful to remove. So again, the younger the better.

Good Luck to you.

It may be a little far for you, but I got my ears pierced at a place called Sweet and Sassy in Southlake (near the DFW airport). They did a fantastic job and they have a whole lot of experience. My baby's ears look awesome, perfectly even.

Try Dillard's or Penny's... You do not need to take them out at night. I had my daughter's ears pierced when she was nearly two years old. No problems.

I had originally gotten my daughter's ears pierced @ 4 yrs of age at Claire's. Unfortunately she falls into the same syndrome as me (sensitive ears). They got infected and we allowed them to close. We then waited 6 mos and then went to Merle Norman (cosmetics). I will tell you that this was the BEST experience ever. I am not sure where you are located but we went to the Merle Norman in Allen off of 75/McDermott. GREAT EXPERIENCE, personable, and we have not had any problems since.

I am afraid I have no advice on where to get them pierced. However I did want to add that the advice I received was very contradictory compared to what you are posting. My children's doctor told me to get them done before they were one, when it would become just a part of their body and they wouldn't bother it or to wait until they were at least 5; when they would be old enough to understand to leave them alone.
