I have been staying home with my boys for 10 1/2 years and are thinking about getting a job, but not sure where to begin. I don't have a college degree first of all. Before my oldest was born I was working as an assistant accountant. Before that I did mostly clerical work. I'm just wondering where should I begin to look - other than the obvious newspaper. I'm looking for partime only at this point, my youngest will be 3 in January and my middle will be 4 next month. Any suggestions? TIA!

If you're going to be looking for clerical/admin work of some sort, I would either first take a class to freshen up your computer skills (unless you are already familiar with the basics: Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) Or Lynda.com is a great tool to learn any program with easy tutorials for pretty cheap (I pay 30 bucks a month and it's way cheaper than classes, I'm planning to cancel after a couple months) This way you can put update your resume and be current in your computer knowledge. Also always ask around, tell everyone you're looking for work and maybe someone knows of something! Good Luck!
Check out that lady, Robin Ryan <<< she has some really good info when it comes to people re-entering the workforce... I just saw her on a PBS special on t.v. and I was very impressed.. She also noted that 80% of the jobs are not posted but also gives you tips as to how to work with that.. she says it's important to state what you have been doing while away from the workforce and gives tips on how to sell yourself.. I think you might find her helpful.. just google her name
best of luck to you
I found my very awesome, new, part time job (after not working for almost 3 years) on Craigslist of all places.
Temp agencies are a good place to start cuz they will test your knowledge and point you in the right direction. More than that though, I'd recommend your local unemployment office. Not only do they have job listings but you may qualify for free training through them to help you get back into it. :) Good luck!
I'm in the same boat. :-)
You could create a resume and post it up on CareerBuilders.com, Jobbing.com, and or Monster.com. A lot of employers look there for potential employees.
You can work part time at CVS Pharmacy as a Cashier. Target, WalMart, a Grocery Store.....Even a department store. It all depends on what you like to do. You could also work part time in a Nursing Home.
There some suggestions for ya. Hope it helps. :-) Good luck finding a job.
Go to a temp agency. They will assess your skills and find a placement for you. This will give you the opportunity to build additional work history as you advance your career. Best wishes.
